This project started with my usual enthusiasm for thinking of the final outcome and not the journey to get there.
Then I started, and my thoughts began like “rip out the old lining!? Sand it!? But what if I ruin it?

So, I had to do something that I don’t normally do…PLAN. (Scary!)

Here’s the initial idea :
Transforming an 80+ year old box into a Lovecraftian case layout! 🚂✨

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Took a vintage wooden case from worn-out to prepped and ready for a cosmic horror micro-railway:
Stripped & Treated: Cleared out old felt, scraped dried glue, and treated woodworm.
Wood Prep: Sanded off old paint splatters and applied pre-stain conditioner.
Metal Care: Polished original brass hardware using Brasso and fine steel wool.

Next step is to let it dry and apply the linseed oil.

What are you working on?

I’ve done a bit more sanding on my case, and giving it a pre-staining condition. I’ll stain it over the next few days.

Great night at the club!

Lou is working on her case layout - it was a noisy start with the sander - James spotted signs of woodworm on the case so it got some treatment too.

The kids had an awesome time hanging out at the dog track and checking out what everyone else was doing.

Stuart was modelling with Keith in the library and tables were being dismantled and moved to where they’re going to live around the building.
