Do More this Summer with Paisley Sea Cadets! Paisley Sea Cadets has been Part of the Community in Paisley for over 70 Years.

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters. The tradition of community based Sea Cadet Units continues today with 400 across the UK each with charitable status enabling them to raise funds t

o meet their running costs. All Units are members of the Sea Cadet Corps and are governed by the national charity MSSC - the Marine Society & Sea Cadets. Our parent Charity works partnership with the Royal Navy under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

Our core purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets. We Meet at our unit Headquarters twice a week where we carry out most of our training however there is rarely a weekend where our cadets are not out and about in the Community helping out or on training courses at District Training facilities.

Several of our cadets were out on the water today representing Clyde South District at the Northern Area Sailing Competition ⛵

A strong effort from everyone involved saw the team come away with a bronze and a silver, and LC Corrie now going on to represent Northern Area at the national competition.

A brilliant achievement and a great reflection of the hard work, training and commitment shown by our cadets. Well done to everyone who took part, and best of luck to LC Corrie at nationals.

Paisley on the podium and heading to nationals. Hard to complain about 😁

Only 1 week to go until the sailing competition ⛵

Today was all about final prep on the water, with our sailing team sharpening up their skills, building confidence and getting those last practice runs in before competition day.

Alongside them, our rowing class were busy building skills of their own. They worked on boat handling, teamwork and commands, then put it all into practice with a few races to finish things off.

A busy session, plenty of learning, a bit of friendly competition, and exactly the kind of controlled chaos we like to see at the boating station.

Competition countdown is officially on 👀

🧽 Rank has its privileges… or so they say! 🧽

On a beautiful evening at the unit, our two Leading Cadets took on the vital task of giving the windows a well-deserved clean. While some may think their rank comes with special perks, today’s privilege wasn’t extra time off or a comfy chair… it was simply getting first pick of the new sponges! 😄

Judging by the smiles, you’d think they had won the lottery rather than a window-washing detail. Great teamwork, plenty of enthusiasm, and a noticeable improvement to the view around the unit.

Thanks to both cadets for setting the example and helping keep the unit looking its best. 👏✨

Lovely weather for boating today ☀️

Our sailing team were out racing ahead of the Area Sailing Competition, putting their training into practice and sharpening up their skills on the water.

Meanwhile, our rowing crews were building confidence, developing teamwork, and working towards their rowing qualifications.

A busy, productive, and very sunny day afloat for Paisley Sea Cadets. Bravo Zulu to everyone involved. 🌊

Cadets, this is your sign to get booked on a course 👀

Clyde South District have released their Q2 courses, with opportunities in sailing, paddlesport, powerboating, windsurfing and promotion boards.

These courses are a great way to build confidence, gain qualifications and keep progressing through Sea Cadets.

Spaces are limited, and cadets will need to be checked for eligibility before booking.

Interested? Speak to an Adult Volunteer, the Unit Training Officer or the OIC and we will help with the next steps. ⚓

Fancy doing more boating this summer? 🌊

Sea Cadets Port Edgar Boat Station have released their July to September course programme, with opportunities across sailing, powerboating, paddlesports and windsurfing.

This is a great chance for cadets to build confidence on the water, gain qualifications, and try something beyond our normal unit boating sessions.

If you see a course you are interested in, please speak to the unit staff. We will help check whether the course is suitable and advise on any age, skill, qualification, cost or travel requirements before anything is booked.

Have a look through the poster and let us know what catches your eye 👀🚤

Did that stop the cadets? Absolutely not.🚣‍♂️

Our new rowing course got underway in proper Clyde conditions, with the cadets getting stuck in, learning the basics, working as a crew and discovering that rowing is definitely harder than it looks.

A brilliant effort from everyone on the water. Wet, cold, tired, but still smiling. That is the Sea Cadet spirit.

Back to boating season 🌊⚓

On Thursday, LC William delivered a lesson to our cadets and juniors on what to wear and what to bring when attending the boatyard.

As we get ready to return to the water, it is important that cadets arrive prepared, comfortable, and ready to take part safely.

Cadets should bring old clothes, a full change of clothes, a towel, snacks, water, and suitable layers for the weather. Safety equipment such as buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided by the unit.

A wetsuit is optional and is not required to take part. It may be useful for some activities, such as sailing, but parents and carers should not feel they need to buy one.

Well done to LC William for taking the lead and helping younger cadets understand how to prepare properly for boating. A cracking bit of cadet led learning 👏

Sunshine, sails, and a very decent start to the boating season ☀️⛵

Today we were down at the harbour for an instructor skills day, making the most of the weather and getting back into the swing of life afloat.

Our senior cadets were all working on their pathway towards Assistant Dinghy Instructor, with plenty of time spent around the boats, sails, powerboats, and the usual “which rope was that again?” moments.

We will be back at the harbour again tomorrow for more of the same, hopefully with the sun still doing us a favour 🌊
