Earlier this week, we were thrilled to gather with supporters, staff, carers, and families at The Scottish Parliament to mark a monumental milestone: our 80th anniversary! 🎉

A sincere thank you to Willie Rennie MSP for kindly sponsoring the reception and welcoming our community into Holyrood for such a meaningful evening.

Reaching 80 years is an opportunity both to reflect on our journey and to focus on the future. Throughout the night, we shared powerful stories directly from the families and individuals we support, and highlighted several key initiatives driving our mission forward. From the pioneering education delivered at Corseford College (Scotland’s only dedicated further education college for young people with complex and additional support needs) to the transformative progress of Our Inclusive Community Project in Perth.

We also addressed the critical challenges facing social care, reinforcing why sustained investment and cross-sector collaboration remain vital to securing a sustainable future for the sector.

Everything achieved over the last eight decades has been built on strong partnerships. As we look ahead to the next 80 years, we remain dedicated to ensuring disabled people across Scotland have the resources, support, and opportunities to thrive.

This award recognises the remarkable dedication of our collaborative education, therapy, and care staff, who work tirelessly to support children and young people with disabilities and complex needs.

The judges praised our team’s unwavering commitment to championing children’s rights, wellbeing, personal development, and creating positive life experiences every single day.

Stanmore House School has achieved "Very Good" ratings across the board in its latest His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) inspection for both Learning, Teaching and Assessment and Raising Attainment and Achievement.

Inspectors praised the school's warm, rights-centred culture and highlighted its multidisciplinary teamwork and communication-rich environment as major strengths.

Outstanding practice was spotlighted in the school's innovative sensory reading partnerships with local libraries and museums, which HMIE recommended sharing nationally.

With an impressive 97% attendance rate, senior phase qualifications leaping from 8 to 55 awards over five years, every senior pupil earning a Gold Youth Achievement Award, and a 100% positive destination track record for leavers over the last three years, the inspection is a powerful testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Stanmore team.

We are so proud to share that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh joined us at our Riccarton Hub on Friday, as we celebrated 80 years of Capability Scotland!

The Duchess, our Royal Patron, spent the afternoon with supported people, staff, volunteers and guests, hearing all about the experiences and achievements from across Capability Scotland, before cutting a specially created 80th anniversary cake with the team.

Another highlight of the day was Her Royal Highness officially opening our brand new YouthZone Play Park, unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.

As our Chief Executive Brian Logan put it, our organisation may have changed a lot since 1946, but our purpose hasn't: supporting disabled people to have choice, independence and equality of opportunity.
