We are so proud to share that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh joined us at our Riccarton Hub on Friday, as we celebrated 80 years of Capability Scotland!

The Duchess, our Royal Patron, spent the afternoon with supported people, staff, volunteers and guests, hearing all about the experiences and achievements from across Capability Scotland, before cutting a specially created 80th anniversary cake with the team.

Another highlight of the day was Her Royal Highness officially opening our brand new YouthZone Play Park, unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.

As our Chief Executive Brian Logan put it, our organisation may have changed a lot since 1946, but our purpose hasn't: supporting disabled people to have choice, independence and equality of opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who made Friday such a special day for the whole Capability Scotland community!"

We are so grateful to East Lothian Council's Amenity Service team for putting together a stunning floral display in North Berwick to celebrate our 80th anniversary.

We spoke with Johnn Stevens, the service’s depot manager at North Berwick, who explains the process of designing and planting the display.

The carpet bed will be visited by Britain in Bloom judges in August as North Berwick represents Scotland in the competition. We wish the team the best of luck! 🌷

A stunning floral display has been created by our staff to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Capability Scotland.
Both the charity and local community have been delighted by the carpet bedding display in North Berwick’s Lodge Grounds.
Members of our Amenity Services team brought to life the colourful tribute to mark the charity’s eight-decade milestone.
Pictured are (left to right) gardeners Danny Lamb, Ross Hutchison and Derek Adams, who planted the display, Johnn Stevens, the service’s depot manager at North Berwick who designed it, and Victoria Roberts from Capability Scotland.

We are thrilled to launch our brand-new Engagement and Involvement Strategy!

Our Deputy Director of Services, Sean, sums it up perfectly in the video below: this strategy puts the voices, choices, and experiences of the people we support at the heart of absolutely everything we do.

Over the next three years, we are focusing on meaningful involvement and co-production so that everyone has the power to shape their own support and drive change across our charity.

We were also delighted to speak with Suzanne and Mark for the launch today, and we're looking forward to hearing much more from them later in the year!

The new strategy is now live on our website and is available in accessible formats too. Click the link to read it now:

Today, we celebrated the graduation of our incredible second cohort at Corseford College! 🎉

It was a fantastic day filled with love, laughter, and a few happy tears as family, friends, and staff came together to recognise the outstanding achievements, resilience, and hard work of our remarkable students.

Our graduates leave us today having mastered new skills, built lifelong friendships, and created unforgettable memories. They are ready to step into their next exciting chapters and new pathways.

As Scotland’s first dedicated further education college for young people with complex additional support needs, we couldn't be prouder of the barriers these young adults continue to break.

We wish our graduates the absolute best for the future!
