Muirhouse Youth Development Group

Muirhouse Youth Development Group Youth organisation Fundamental to MYDG is the building and maintaining of relationships with young people, as they grow up in Muirhouse.

What MYDG stands for is exactly what its initials signify – for Youth, for their Development, through being an ongoing, open, outwardly-facing Group, rooted in the community of Muirhouse and its adjacent areas of north Edinburgh. MYDG engages and involves young people, responding to what is said, needs expressed, or support sought, through the activities of the Group, and through the connections b

uilt between volunteers (Muirhouse young people too) with those younger than themselves, and with the backing of MYDG staff. At the heart of what MYDG stands for is an open door, a welcome, and a sense of belonging. The organisation is stable and can be relied upon, even over many years. It gives real participation to young people who come through its door.

We would like to say a big thanks to Edinburgh Airport staff from the Recruitment and HR team for their time on Friday at Pilton Retreat. This is the second volunteer day they have given, they came back as they enjoyed it so much the first time. They cleared the leaves in the grounds there are thousands, sorted the planters and cleared the raised beds they are looking lovely. They also painted inside the centre. Without the help of corporate sponsors and team volunteer days none of this work would get done, so quickly and efficiently as it does !!!. Thanks again for thinking about our charity and the great work we do in shaping and changing the lives of local children, young people and their families for the better. If you would like to give time back through a volunteer day to our charity. Please get in touch with Lesley Ross at Pilton Retreat.

We would like to say a big thankyou to the Royal Bank of Scotland (international) for their hard work on their Volunteer Day at Pilton Retreat. They painted the kitchen, cleaned the grounds, cleared the leaves, fixed some furniture, cleared the bushes at the front of the building. Without the support from our Corporate partners the centre would not look as good as it does today.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the centre again soon. Thanks for the kind donation of a new tool set for Pilton Retreat this was really needed, as I think we have had the other set for at least 40+ years.

If you know of any corporate organisations / businesses that would like to spend a day volunteering their time at Pilton Retreat in Ratho please let us know. Thanks Lesley Ross (Pilton Retreat).

We would like to thank the Wooden Spoon Charity for their very generous funding towards the upgrade of our kitchen at 'Pilton Retreat ' in Ratho. The kitchen has been well used over the years and was dated and in need of repair. This funding has transformed the kitchen. It was officially opened by Roger Baird former Scotland International rugby player. What a great afternoon it was meeting members of the Wooden Spoon, talking about the work of MYDG and all the groups that visit and stay at Pilton Retreat. It was a chance to showcase the facility and talk about the importance of the centre for children, young people and their families in particular those from the North Edinburgh area. Also we spoke about the history of Pilton Retreat and we hope this afternoon has raised the profile of the centre, we have grown our contacts and partnership opportunities and the chance of more funding in the future from a range of sources. What a great afternoon it was !!!
