The Rock Trust

The Rock Trust We are Scotland's youth homelessness charity. We want an end youth homelessness in Scotland No one version of support is appropriate for every person.

Rock Trust works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We advise, educate and support young people to enable them to build the personal skills and resources required to make a positive and healthy transition to adulthood. The services we offer young people have been developed to address the broad range of needs and experiences of young people, with an empha

sis on creating choice. That is why our services range from long-term support for young people with very complex needs, such as those leaving care, to emergency support for young people in crisis, to a helping hand for young people who are simply struggling to access an expensive and competitive rental market.

New duties in the Housing (Scotland) Act 2025 will require public bodies to ask about someone's housing situation early and act before things escalate - otherwise known as 'Ask & Act'.

How will this look in schools? Our Ask & Act Education Manager Hannah Rawlinson has been speaking to staff across 25 Scottish schools to find out what's needed. Building on our Upstream Scotland programme, we're now developing practical tools to help schools identify and support young people at risk, before they reach crisis point.

From how it started to how it's going 🌱

Over the past few months, we've been busy at our Youth Gardening Club at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh growing potatoes, lettuce, coriander, parsley, beans, courgettes, kohlrabi, sunflowers, rocket, radishes and so much more!

It's been a really valuable experience learning how to grow and harvest food, while getting outdoors, being active and taking in the sun this summer. We have a few sessions left so if you are interested in getting involved please get in touch.

We've had such a lovely time at our Clay Open Studio sessions with Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop this summer. From getting hands-on with ceramics to glazing finished pieces, it's been a great chance for young people to get creative, meet new people and enjoy a welcoming space to learn something new.

We've still got three sessions left this year:
- 25th September
- 13th November
- 4th December

The sessions are open to all young people, so if you'd like to come along, we'd love to see you! Just get in touch with us to register your interest!

We're back with another Meet the Team! 👋

This time, we're introducing Kim from our Therapy & Wellbeing team, who provides Art Therapy to young people at Rock Trust.

Kim offers a block of 12 weekly, 50-minute therapy sessions, creating a safe and supportive space where young people can explore what's on their mind through creativity.

Often young people find the artmaking as calming and theraputic itself but it also provides opportunities to highlight or capture subconscious thoughts and feelings. It can be quiet a special experience to have 50 minutes dedicated to thinking, creating and developing on own self-awareness. Often leading to change, support systems and self-empowerment.

💬 "The most rewarding part of my job is seeing young people feeling more empowered and gain a deeper understanding about themselves, their needs and their futures." – Kim
