Supporting people in need
Teaching repair & reuse skills
Rehoming preloved tech Skill sharing is pivotal to what we do.

The Edinburgh Remakery is an environmental social enterprise committed to diverting waste from landfill, building a stronger community, and promoting a culture of repair and reuse. We repair, refurbish and recycle what others send to landfill, and we pass these repair skills onto others within the Edinburgh community through education. What can you do at the Edinburgh Remakery?
- Donate your old e

lectronics to us
- Book a space on one of our fun and creative workshops to learn a new skill
- Buy affordable and high quality refurbished electronics in-store and online
- Book a private group workshop in our open creative workshop space
- Rent a sewing machine from 1-6 weeks

We engage with thousands of individuals each year and seek to work in partnership with organisations across Edinburgh to increase social and environmental impacts. Our free Tech Disposal Service for Businesses enables us to work with some of the largest organisations across the city to prevent items going to waste. As well as accommodating our retail enterprise, through which we refurbish and sell on second-hand electronic equipment, the Remakery is also a community resource. We offer: educational and training opportunities within the circular economy, and more; creative workshops across a variety of craft disciplines focused around the theme of sustainable living; and paid apprenticeships for young people. We teach people how to repair and reuse their belongings rather than throwing them away and buying new, thus achieving environmental impact through landfill diversion and carbon reduction. By empowering communities to repair and reuse, we help improve financial literacy and capabilities, and help people living in adverse circumstances to access free and affordable electronic equipment. By providing training and employment opportunities, we are contributing to the creation of green jobs in the circular economy whilst addressing the skills gap and engaging young people with sustainable practices, and have previously piloted opportunities for people who have been furthest from the labour market due to adverse life circumstances e.g. homelessness / rehabilitation, and equipping them with hard and soft skills for future employment.

What if your one vote could help keep tonnes of e-waste out of landfill while inspiring the next generation of climate champions? 💚

In the past two years, through our Tech Donation Box Programme for schools, we have:
• Partnered with over 20 schools
• Saved 742 devices from landfill
• Prevented 98,700 kg of CO₂ emissions – equal to the weight of 140 highland cows!!!
• Helped extend the life of tech while supporting people facing digital exclusion

Now we are in the running for ECCAN's GreenLight Fund 2026/27, and with your support, we can bring Tech Donation Boxes back into schools across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Funding will help us engage young people in climate action, reduce e-waste, develop Digital Climate Champions, and get more refurbished devices into the hands of people who need them most.

How to vote:
1. Ensure you are an ECCAN member (membership is free).
2. Select your top five projects.
3. Rank your favourite project as number 1, second favourite as number 2, and so on.
4. Click Submit to confirm your vote.

Every vote brings us one step closer to empowering the next generation of climate champions and keeping valuable tech in use for longer.

Spring may be over, but creativity was in full bloom at our recent community club with the women’s group from Bethany Christian Trust 💚
The participants joined us for a relaxing and creative paper flower-making workshop led by our talented tutor, Isabell Buenz.
From carefully crafting petals to sharing stories and laughter around the table, the session was a lovely reminder of how creativity can bring people together, build confidence, and create meaningful connections.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped turn simple sheets of paper into beautiful works of art!💐

We recently welcomed a fantastic group of students from University of Minnesota Twin Cities to Edinburgh Remakery for a Talk & Tour, exploring the world of repair, reuse, and the circular economy.

Our technicians took the students behind the scenes with a live tech teardown demonstration, opening up devices to reveal the components inside and showcasing the skills involved in assessing, repairing, and refurbishing tech.

From uncovering what makes our devices tick to discussing the environmental impact of electronic waste, it was a brilliant opportunity to share how repair and reuse can help build a more sustainable future 💚

We are delighted to announce a new partnership between Edinburgh Remakery and Systal Technology Solutions, a global technology transformation specialist committed to creating meaningful, measurable sustainability impact.
Starting with our first collection on 16 June, this collaboration will transform old tech into opportunities for people and communities through our social IT Asset Disposition (sITAD) service.
Devices collected from Systal will be securely data-wiped, refurbished where possible, and a portion of the refurbished devices will be gifted to people facing digital exclusion through our Tech Gifting Programme. The partnership will also support our Community Clubs, helping create welcoming spaces for creativity, wellbeing, learning and social connection.
As Tereze Finnegan, Executive Operations Lead at Systal, explains:
"Our partnership with Edinburgh Remakery reflects Systal's commitment to driving meaningful, measurable impact through sustainability. By working together, we are not only reducing e-waste through responsible reuse and recycling, but also supporting digital inclusion and community wellbeing, turning end-of-life technology into a force for positive change."
Our CEO, Elaine Brown, adds:
"We are delighted to be partnering with Systal to transform old tech into opportunities for people and communities. Every device reused is one less device entering the waste stream and one more chance for someone to access the digital tools they need to learn, work and thrive. Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of collaboration. If we are serious about reducing e-waste and tackling digital exclusion, collaboration must be at the heart of the solution."
Together, we are showing how sustainability is about more than reducing waste, it's about creating lasting benefits for people, communities and the planet
A huge thank you to the team at Systal for joining us on this journey.

There’s still time to be part of the conversation.

Got unused tech sitting in storage? It could be doing far more than gathering dust.

On 2nd June, our CEO Elaine Brown joins the next ScotlandIS Tech Tidbit to explore how organisations can rethink their approach to tech, unlocking environmental impact, creating social value, and helping tackle digital exclusion through circular economy thinking.

A small shift in how we manage devices can create lasting change for people, communities, and the planet.

Join us to discover how your organisation’s redundant tech could become a force for good.
