Leith Rotary Club meets Thursday evening in The Queen Charlotte Rooms, Queen Charlotte Street, Leith. 6.30 to 7.30pm

Earlier this year, the Rotary Club of Leith organised our Performing for Peace charity concert, bringing our community together through music in support of Ukraine.

Part of the funds raised was donated to the Rotary Club Kharkiv City to support their Children of Heroes project — an initiative dedicated to bringing care, joy and unforgettable experiences to children whose parents have given so much in defence of Ukraine.

We were delighted to receive a report from our friends in Kharkiv and, most importantly, to see the smiles of the children as they enjoyed a truly special time together. Knowing that the generosity of everyone who supported Performing for Peace helped create these moments makes us incredibly proud.

Our friends at Rotary Club Kharkiv City recorded this video especially for us, and we are very happy to share it with you.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who performed, attended, donated and helped make Performing for Peace possible. Your support travelled far beyond the concert hall — and brought real joy to these children. 💙💛

We are proud to support the “Rotary Ukraine – Children of Heroes” project and to stand alongside our Rotary friends in Ukraine.

Seeing the smiles of these children reminds us why international Rotary partnerships matter. Together, we can bring hope, joy, and lasting memories to families who have been affected by war.

We are honoured to have supported the 83rd “Happy Day” for the Children of Ukraine’s Heroes.

Thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, Rotary Club of Leith was able to help provide a memorable day for children who have lost a parent defending Ukraine, together with their guardians.

The programme included visits to Kharkiv Zoo, NEMO Kharkiv Dolphinarium, creative workshops, climbing activities, an IMAX cinema experience, roller skating, meals throughout the day, and gifts for every child.

Seeing these children smile, laugh, and simply enjoy being children is a powerful reminder of why international Rotary partnerships matter.

We are grateful to our friends at Rotary Club “Kharkiv-City” and everyone involved in organising this wonderful event. Their dedication ensures that these children receive not only enjoyable experiences but also the care, hope, and support they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Together, we continue to demonstrate the Rotary spirit of Service Above Self.

Yesterday, 26 June, the Rotary Club of Leith held its handover meeting for the new Rotary year 2026–2027.

We are delighted to congratulate Ross Wilkinson, who has officially taken on the role of President of the Rotary Club of Leith for 2026–2027.

Club members came together to mark the occasion, congratulate Ross, and hear reports from the club committees as we look ahead to the year to come.

We were also pleased to welcome James McCulloch, Assistant Governor, District 1320 — Rotary Scotland South, who joined us for the handover.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the evening. We look forward to another active and meaningful Rotary year under Ross’s leadership.

Rotary Club of Leith

This evening 18 of July 2026, our members enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Stuart K. Monro on the life, achievements, and enduring legacy of James Hutton, often regarded as the father of modern geology.

Dr Monro explored Hutton’s remarkable contributions to science and highlighted how his pioneering ideas transformed our understanding of the Earth and laid the foundations for many areas of modern geological and environmental research.

It was an engaging and thought-provoking evening, filled with learning, discussion, and appreciation for one of Scotland’s greatest scientific minds.

Our sincere thanks to Dr Monro for sharing his expertise and inspiring us with this journey through Scotland’s scientific heritage.

Members of the Rotary Club of Leith were delighted to welcome Rachael Gilfillan to this evening’s meeting for an insightful talk about the valuable work of the Bethany Christian Trust⁠.

Founded in Leith over 40 years ago, Bethany continues to make an extraordinary difference by supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship across Scotland through prevention, crisis support and long-term care.

Thank you, Rachael, for sharing both the challenges and the hope behind this important work. It was a meaningful and inspiring evening for all of us.
