Our latest intake for Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. This bunch are lively, funny, smart and hard working. I love them so much!

They are all from St Andrews & St Brides High School and, goodness me, they represent their school well.

No matter how boring the job is they always do it willingly. Every Thursday they to our HQ, come find me in my office, get a snack and get to work.

Every year I’m impressed by the young people who willingly give up time every week to volunteer.

They don’t have to. They want to. I’m glad you are here lads…so glad!

St. Vincent de Paul Parish East Kilbride - for quite some time now, this church has been quietly donating every month. Often cash. Always food. Lots of love too.

They approached me a good time ago to ask how they could be involved as a parish. How their congregation could make a difference. This is how they make a difference.

We are so grateful to them for their continued support and kindness. Putting food in the mouths of our families is a very important job indeed. They do it well and I’m so glad they are here.

These photos represent £400.
£400 of eggs, toioet roll and cereal for a week.
Core items of our food bags every week. We absolutely love being able to provide fresh fruit, vegetables, frozen and chilled fruit. However, at the centre of everything are the basic items. I wonder if you can imagine deciding between toilet roll and cereal for your children? Eggs which make a good few meals or toilet roll?
Without the food you give when you donate and the money you donate our customers would have to make these decisions.

Lisa Sultana and her group at Team 50/50 ensure we don’t have to make these decisions. Their generous donations make that difference. Between the most basic of choices.

That’s the reality of Foodbank’s my friends. Allowing families the “luxury” of not having to make that choice.

This incredible group are a true example of compassion and love… especially for those they haven’t even met. Thank you so, so much Lisa and team. We couldn’t do this without you. I’m so glad you have been along for the ride all these years. We ❤️ you. 🩵💛🥖🐠

Following the theme of young people… Viv, Rebecca, Brendan and I welcomed the 17th Ek Brownies this week!

I had already visited them and judged their Easter egg decorating competition. This return visit was to show them what actually happens at L&F HQ! They also brought over £300 in donations. This was generously achieved through filling smartie tubes with £1 coins!

They also brought the most incredible posters to decorate our cafe. They had drawings, support and the loveliest words on each one. This was such a thoughtful generous gesture and one we and our customers will appreciate enormously. You put in a good shift, worked hard and impressed us very much.

Thank you so much Brownies… looking forward to the next time! 🩵💛🥖🐠

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School was my Thursday destination.
P 2/3 and 2 P4 classes were kind, respectful and so locked in to my talk.

These visits to schools are never about money or donations. They are about schools having a strong desire for their young people to learn about the world. About their community. About their neighbours and friends.
The aim is only ever to help them understand that ANYONE can find themselves in a position where they need a wee bit of extra help.
How we help them at L&F and how in turn, the OLOL school community can help us. I’m always so grateful to be welcomed in to schools. It’s a magical opportunity to chat with our coming citizens, our soon to be adults who will live in our community. They are going to mould the kind of society THEY live in. It’s an honour to be a tiny part of that.

Thanks for listening guys. Your questions were insightful, your smiles big and your hearts open. Remember.
It’s never just one tin of beans.. right?

Let’s catch up on the week, it’s been a busy one!
In the last few months I have had the opportunity to visit two of the schools we work closely with, for their YPI finals. It’s an honour to be represented by the young people in our town, Duncanrig and St Andrews St Brides. I’m so proud of every group who works hard on our behalf. No matter what stage they reach in the competition, to be chosen by them at all means such a lot.
It means they care. It means they want to help others. It means we are not alone.
Each school has had two groups reach the final. Each group delivering a moving, heartfelt presentation. They took the time to visit the warehouse. To ask question, to become part of our family.
Thank you so, so much to these young people and all the others who choose us. It’s been a joy to be part of their journey. 🩵💛🥖🐠

Our amazing friends Cameron and Loki came to visit me recently. You may remember them from their incredible fundraising activities in the past… imaginative, hard working lads with an amazing social conscience!

This time they had a really fun plan. They wanted to have a fundraising carwash, with tea coffee and cakes.

Not just asking people people for money but giving them a service in the process! It made sense to hold it here. This is not our initiative, this is entirely the lads gig. We are just opening up the building and hanging about to chat!

So let me give you… Cameron and Loki’s Car wash! We would love to see you here.

Tomorrows line up, Tuesday 26th May, at Space to Talk, right here at our Loaves and Fishes Cafe. Open to anyone who needs support, not just L&F Customers.

Please, if you think we can help, just pop up and tell Laura in reception you are here for Space to Talk. Get a cup of tea, some toast and cereal for breakfast, while you are with us.

It would absolutely be our pleasure to welcome you.

This time last week was a perfect way to start my week. I had guest from EKYC 2013 team for a visit and to put in some graft!

They were loveliest young men, who started lively and full of chat but very quickly became absorbed in the stories, numbers and reality of those facing food insecurity and hunger.

Once again my faith in the future is much encouraged by them. They were polite, enquiring and, showed compassion and worked incredibly hard.

It was my absolute pleasure to spend time with them, I believe we may have the opportunity to meet others from the club in the coming months. If these boys were an example? I simply cannot wait! Thanks guys, you were an absolute pleasure to have with me. Well done!

Our long time volunteer Brenda is the proud gran of one of the lads. She was the lucky helper to be joining for this visit! Thank you Brenda, as ever someone who lives for our wee charity, and who we would so struggle without.

An incredible weekend for Big Dave and his garden team! With the help of fellow volunteers Driver Ian and Gutters John, our talented, generous supporters at East Kilbride Young Farmers and some timely sunshine? Our wee garden project made huge progress.

Without the skill of our friendly farmers, the passion and commitment of our volunteers, a wee advisory hand from our seasonal driver/full time landscaper gardener Winter Craig, I wouldn’t be bringing you these amazing progress pics.

Dave reports lots of chats and interest from our local community as we move forward with phase 1 of the garden project. Thank you so much to all of you. Especially Dave’s dog Ziggy!

Many thanks to A.B Timber for the generous support with the delivery and pricing. You guys are stars!

Stand by for the next stage! Given our volunteers “vintage” without our young supporters bringing equipment and strength this would be taking a lot longer. Proud and grateful to be East Kilbride Young Farmers chosen charity for this year.🫜👨‍🌾🩵💛🥖🐠
