Look who’s back? It’s Father Kenny from Our Lady of Lourdes Church!

Our recently received £2015 donation from the parishioners and and parish ?
My goodness but we are grateful. Beyond grateful. We are humbled.

When you read my posts about the amazing donations we receive? Do you think “where does all the money go?”
Let me tell you.
It pays our electricity
It buys food for our customers.
It keeps our service open.
It provides over 350 food parcels a week.

That’s where it goes my friends. It’s a tough gig. Father Kenny and the parishioners are part of our family. Part of our team. They might not all be in the warehouse packing parcels, but be sure they are our people. Just as you all are. Jeeze but we couldn’t do it without any of you.

Mother Theresa said “ If you can’t feed 100 people, then feed just one.”

Let’s keep doing that for as long as we are open. Can we feed the 700 million starving people across the world? No.
Can we feed those around us who need us? Yes.
As long as we have you all. As long as we have our friends at OLOL.
As long as we have you.

I wanted to share this photo from 2021.
Lisa Marie Sultana and baby Louis. Back when we wore masks and hid our fear of what might happen behind them.

This is how long Lisa has been supporting us. This is how long I have been lucky enough to have her as a friend.

Lisa has unique community over on her competition page. She consistently orchestrates a place of happiness and goodwill, giving her people the chance to win lovely, fun prizes. Do you know what else happens there?

The will to feed hungry children, adults, pets and so much more. The fundraising that keeps us open and our service delivering.

We live in a world where this is necessary. It’s heartbreaking. It’s hard. It’s lonely.

This has been a mainstay of our survival for five long years. We recently received a £300 donation. What happened? Tummies were full.

Guess what? 🧑‍🎄🎅🤶 “ it’s tiiime “🎶
Forgive my out of tune singing, but here’s the thing. I avoid asking you for things throughout the year.
We all struggle more now. It’s not a fair pressure to put on a community that shows us so much love.
Until we get to Christmas.

We have a total of over 1160 adults and
children, vulnerable adults, teenagers and pensioners registered with us.

We would love to give them that little bit of extra love this Christmas. That they should know that, despite life being tough and scary and hard for them? We care. We want them to have that wee bit of magic.

We are logistically ready. We have Christmas bag lists prepared. The team are looking forward both spreading Christmas joy and receiving it.

So my question is this. Can you help in any way? Within your family, your work place, your school, your church, your youth group? Please? It doesn’t sit well with us to make requests from a society in which we all struggle, but this task we can’t do alone.

If you think you can help in any way, we hope you could get your donations to us by the 7th of December. Please consider supporting us this Christmas. It’s going to be the toughest one we have faced. We need you all. We never ever take your support for granted. Ever.

Smashing wee afternoon spent with the ladies of Rutherglen United Reform Church!

This wee group of superstars were only 4 of nearly 40 who were there today. I spoke for over 40 minutes and they were gracious, kind and so fullof compassion and love for the stories they heard.

Make no mistake, when i talk to a group who have been kind enough to invite me?
I don’t just talk about L&F.
I don’t ask for anything.
I don’t expect anything.
Not be cause we don’t need help. With a huge building to run, over 300 food parcels to provide every week, and generally survive as a charity helping those most punished by a difficult economy?

I talk about food insecurity and the sadness and heartbreak those living this life face.
I try to be in as many rooms as i can just talking. Sharing. Saying the hard truths.
I do it because it’s the oxygen we need to survive.
If a community chooses to help us as a result of the talk, my gratitude is overwhelming.

So to my friends at the ladies club, from this church which holds a special place in my heart, thank you.
Thank you for the generous donations.
The friendship.
The laughs.

This is a tough job to do, but man i love it so much. Exactly because of afternoons like today. 🩵💛 🥖🐠

Harvest time is school assembly time. It’s an excellent opportunity to share the message of abundance, sharing and looking after each other. I had a full diary this year, visiting many schools including
South Park
Chapelton
Wester Overton
Kirkland Park
Gilmourton

South Park is a school so close to my heart, I visit often and am lucky enough to be part of their school community. They never fail to open their arms and share any “abundance” they may have. Even if it’s just that one tin of beans… it means one full tummy and that’s better than none.

Our Strathaven schools also participated in the Rotary Clubs Empty Shelves Means Empty Tummies campaign. A big part of our harvest collection and something we couldn’t do without.

Now if you know me even a tiny bit, you know I love to talk about L&F, so this is my absolute favourite thing to do!! Thank you to our local schools for never losing sight of the importance of addressing food insecurity with every age group. In every room. I look forward to seeing the rest of our school children as we approach the crazy pre Christmas period.

Yer wee pal with the red hair found herself out on FRIDAY NIGHT!!! Most unusual behaviour for someone who works a million hours a week and enjoys her pyjamas as soon as she is home!

However, when our good friends at East Kilbride Young Farmers invited me along to talk to their members at their fundraising night? They didn’t have to ask me twice…

We are proud to be their chosen charity of the year and so appreciate all they have done for us. So it was important for me to explain just how much their support means and just how much of an impact it has.

Thank you so much lads, I loved getting to meet more of your members and love your connection and compassion for us. We are truly lucky. Every bit of support we get pays for an item of food, a full tummy and someone who worries less in the knowledge that we are there to look after them. That’s a beautiful gift to give right?

Hello! I’m excited to tell you, that following from one of the hardest weeks we have faced… it’s time to build our team again.

We have almost 80 volunteers who are all available for a variety of hours. But guess what? It’s still not enough.

I truly believe the reason we are renowned for providing a warm, holistic, all encompassing service? It’s because of the strength of our volunteer team. We are a family. We fill each other’s cup and recognise that we all volunteer for a number of reasons. Volunteers need love and support as well mas our customers. This is SO important.

If you think a team where we laugh, cry, mourn and celebrate together sounds like something you would like? Here’s the details!

We require volunteers for Tuesday/Wed/Thursdays
9.30-1.30. You are welcome to work one or more shifts depending on your availability. You will receive an L&F tee shirt, a sense of belonging and membership of a very special team.

You might be thinking we have been quiet on here of late. That would be true, but let me tell you why. Things have been busy. Soooo busy. I have so much to share about the places I have been and people I have met.

However, we have also been busy to the tune of 308 food parcels given out last week.

Maybe if I say it often enough it will sink in? These are unprecedented numbers. A wide and varied demographic of families and individuals. A variety of dietary needs.
But still, 308 food parcels.

Our volunteers are exhausted. They are stressed and they are worried. What do we do now?
We carry on. We find new ways to make the same amount go further. We find better ways to support and nurture our team. We worry more.

Our CRM system presents the numbers in every breakdown we ask for. But the number doesn’t change. It’s still 308 parcels.

308 parcels.
Over 1500 individuals fed.
80 volunteers.

I’m not asking for anything. I’m not begging for help. I’m just telling you how it is. Sometimes if you say something out loud it makes it less scary. Didn’t work this time. Still scary.

No fun pics. No silly jokes. Just numbers tonight.
We will continue on and find ways to make it work.
Please though, please think of us. Of our lovely customers. Our incredible volunteers. Our generous supporters.

I had a fabulous start to the new term with assembly visits to two of our Strathaven Schools…Wester Overton Primary and Gilmourton Primary. It’s a joy to have the opportunity to chat with the children, play a game and answer questions.

It’s something I never take for granted and am always grateful for. I know how lucky I am to be given this opportunity to connect with the schools that support us and value each visit.

On this occasion it was in partnership with Rotary Club of Strathaven as part of their Empty Shelves Means Empty Stomachs Campaign. Thank you for creating this vehicle which generates awareness, donations and conversations around the work we do. As always, I’m thankful for every school who includes, embraces, supports and provides oxygen to the conversation around food insecurity with the adults of tomorrow.

YPI day is always a good day. Holy Rood Secondary School YPI day is always one I especially look forward to.

Holy Rood in Glasgow is Scotlands largest High School. It’s busy, it’s loud, it’s fun and I love it!

Between 8.30-1 o’clock L&F and around 20 other charities got to share our stories with around 400 pupils. In hopes they would pick us as their small group chosen charity to represent in a competition that can ultimately win £3000.

That’s a lot of young people.
That’s a lot of talking.
That’s a lot of questions to answer.

It’s an utterly magical experience that I hope I get to be part of in as many schools as I can as often as I can.

Because here’s the big news. It’s not really about the £3000. It’s about the conversations, the engagement, the connections that I get to have with the young people that are going to be the future of society. If it’s down to today’s young people … Polite, respectful, keen to help and create change in society? I think we might just be okay. Thank Holy Rood. You were a joy. Here’s to next year! 🩵💛🥖🐠

Thank you for yet another year I was proud to be a part of. I may, however , need an exceptionally long nap to recover!!
