As Bonfire Night approaches, remember our furry friends — loud bangs and bright lights can be frightening for them. Keep pets safe indoors, close curtains, and play gentle music to calm them. 🐾✨

From all of us at East Kilbride Neighbourhood Watch / The Community Impact Project, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Bonfire Night.

🎆 Stay safe, look out for your neighbours — and don’t forget the pets!

🚨 Travel Alert – London ↔ Glasgow Rail Services Suspended

All trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central (via the West Coast Main Line) are cancelled north of Preston today following a major incident near Shap in Cumbria.

What’s happened and why

A service from Glasgow to London derailed early this morning near Shap after reportedly striking a landslide at about 80 mph.

As a result, all lines north of Preston are blocked, and north‑south services on this key corridor are suspended.

Passengers are strongly advised not to travel north of Preston today.

🎫 Refunds & ticket advice

If your train is cancelled and you decide not to travel, you are eligible for a full refund from the retailer where you bought your ticket, with no admin fee.

If you bought an “Advance” ticket (which normally is non‑refundable), you may still claim a full refund because the service is cancelled.

To claim: contact the train operator or the ticket retailer. For example, Avanti West Coast advises that tickets for today are valid tomorrow without alteration.

Claims must generally be made within 28 days of the ticket’s expiry date.

If you did travel but were delayed or disrupted, you may also be eligible for compensation via schemes such as “Delay Repay”.

🔍 What you should do now

Check your ticket retailer’s website or contact their customer service to lodge a refund claim.

If you still need to travel, consider alternative routes or wait until services resume – do not attempt to travel the blocked section north of Preston.

Keep your ticket until any refund has been processed.
