Dawn of Chivalry is a late 13th century (Edward I) reenactment group focusing on the display of combat skills in the context of knight tournaments. Our primary goals are to educate the public on the military equipment of the period and to entertain visitors the same way tournaments would have done in 1285. Rather than big battles, our displays are more oriented towards one-v-one foot combat where

skills at arms are prominent. Knights and their retinue (serjents at arms and levies) fight "a plaisance" to try and demonstrate that their are the most skilled in the land. We try to be as martially correct as possible while staying safe and entertaining. Our combat system requires high level of training but is also widely considered as being of high quality.

Training at Hutton Henry tomorrow, seat of the mighty Sir Richard, will be at the slightly later time of 12pm - 2pm… which means good Sir Walter, grumpy Sir Thomas, and sleepy Serjent Daniel might make it on time, for a change!

No surrender.
No mercy.
No common sense.

Sir Walter, Sir Thomas and Serjeant David “enjoy” the howling wind, blinding snow and frozen wet footwear.

Training tomorrow returns to Hutton Henry, conveniently situated within easy commute from Hartlepool, Peterlee, Sunderland and Durham and good transport links via the A19. Close to local amenities such as The Plough, Bow Cottage’s outdoor netty, and Sir Walter’s mace, the tranquil and deceptively spacious site sits at the heart of this charming rural village and its thriving community of violent medieval warriors. Viewing strongly advised between 11am and 1pm - contact us for more details

Our training ground is under threat, despite years of good people volunteering to improve and maintain this important community space.

It’s uniquely accessible and could become a thriving hub of community-led activities and events… but it seems Durham County Council has other offers of the table ☹️

If you like what we do at Dawn Of Chivalry, you want to see fun and interesting activities in the few remaining open spaces in our cities, or you just believe free community-led green spaces are important for our wellbeing, please sign the petition by Elvet Green Durham and share these posts. Thank you
