The Lord Lieutenant of County Durham presents long service awards to Durham police officers and staff for their committed public service .

The Lord Lieutenant of County Durham was delighted to present a number of officers and civilian staff with long service award medals at a recent ceremony in Durham . During his speech he thanked the award winners and their colleagues for dedicated public service . As we enter National Week of Volunteering ,it is a wonderful opportunity for The County Durham Lieutenancy to say a sincere "Thank You" to all who give so much of their time and effort selflessly ,to help and support others within our communities . New Mayor of Hartlepool

Councillor Sue Little was installed as the new Mayor of Hartlepool this week .She succeeds Councillor Carole Thompson who had carried out a remarkeable 200 engagements during her term of office . Burnhope Centenary Gala, A Proud Day in the Durham Coalfield

It was a great privilege to attend the Burnhope Centenary Gala on Saturday 16 May 2026, marking one hundred years since this Durham pit village hosted what remains the only Durham Miners' Gala ever held outside Durham City. In 1926, with the General Strike under way and the Big Meeting in Durham cancelled by the Miners' Association, the people of Burnhope decided to go it alone....
