The British Sociological Association

The British Sociological Association Welcome to the page of the British Sociological Association (BSA) - the national subject association for sociologists in Britain.

Here at the BSA we operate a network of Specialist Study Groups each focusing on a specific area of interest within Sociology. Depending on where you are in your career, there is also support for emerging talent through our Postgraduate Forum and the newly formed Early Career Forum, providing a professional and social network in which individuals with specialised research, teaching and professiona

l interests can connect and develop their own events. We also host a number of conferences and workshops throughout the year, including our Annual Conference, which is always the year’s major networking event for Sociology academics and professionals! With the support of our members we offer a vast and wide range of membership benefits, including:

• Exclusive access to the Members Area of our website
• Huge discounts on conference and event registration
• Your choice of internationally recognised BSA journal, ‘Sociology’ or ‘Work, Employment & Society’
• Three issues per year of the BSA's popular newsletter, ‘Network’
• Up to 50% discount on selected SAGE Publications books and journals
• FREE online access to SAGE Sociology Full-Text Collection encompassing over 45,900 articles
• Eligibility for prizes and funding opportunities
• 2-for-1 meals or 25% off your bill with the Gourmet Society Dining Card

If you’re looking to save money on these events, gain access to journals, or simply network with your fellow sociologists, then membership of the BSA is a must. Come and join us by signing up either online (www.britsoc.co.uk/join) or over the phone on 0191 383 0839.

Why is this? Read Katy Wright and Sarah Irwin on their prize-winning research

(Why) do people self-silence? Given the extensive concern and desire for action on climate change, why is it that people do not talk about it more than they do? Asked...
