The whole team of volunteers at Dover RNLI, the operational crew, shore team, fundraisers, shop staff etc, would like to thank all their supporters, donors and well-wishers for their overwhelming support over the last couple of weeks. The RNLI had become the target for a barrage of deliberate ill-informed, unjustified and hateful commentary, harassment, and abuse and your support is much appreciated.
The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.
The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgement, fear or favour.
We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.
Dover has had a lifeboat since 1837 and we remain committed to saving lives at sea with the help of our generous supporters. To those who stand with the RNLI, the team at Dover thank you.
