Meet the Indigenous organisers, campaigners and artists visiting Derry this week.

The delegation includes representatives from Honor the Earth, an Indigenous women-led organisation working for Indigenous sovereignty, environmental justice and community empowerment.

Their visit builds on longstanding connections between Derry and Indigenous communities in the United States.

Through shared histories of struggle, resilience and community organising, this visit will create opportunities to build connections, exchange experiences and strengthen international solidarity.

The Day Innocence Died will have its first US screening later this month at John Carroll University in Ohio.

The film tells the story of Bloody Sunday and the families’ long campaign for truth and justice.

The screening takes place in the university’s Dolan Auditorium on Monday 28 September, with light refreshments from 6pm and the film beginning at 7pm. A panel discussion will follow.

The screening is presented by John Carroll University and the Honorary Consul of Ireland in Ohio, with support from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Greater Cleveland Mayo Society.

The Day Innocence Died: Bloody Sunday & The Fight for Justiceis now available to stream and download.

Produced by Rainbow Collective and the Bloody Sunday Trust, the film tells the story of Bloody Sunday and the families’ long campaign for truth and justice.

Family members and activists tell the story in their own words, from the civil rights movement through Bloody Sunday and the decades that followed.

Following a busy run of screenings across Ireland and Britain and requests from around the world, the film has now been released digitally.

The download also includes a licence to screen the film publicly to audiences of up to 50 people.

The Bloody Sunday Trust is delighted to welcome a delegation from Indigenous communities in the United States to Derry from 7-13 September as part of Derry Peace and Conflict International.

The visit will provide an opportunity to share experiences and learn from each other’s struggles for justice, equality and self-determination, including the impact of colonisation, displacement and attempts to suppress culture, identity and history.

The visit also builds on connections stretching back many years. In 1985, Indigenous representatives joined the Bloody Sunday Commemoration in Derry in solidarity with the families and their campaign for truth and justice.

Signage is now in place across the city after community and voluntary organisations across Derry worked together with the Bloody Sunday Trust to complete a BDS compliance audit.

The audit looked at who organisations buy from and do business with, to make sure they are not linked to companies named by the BDS Movement as priority targets for boycott.

The initiative reflects the unwavering support across Derry for the Palestinian people, their right to freedom and self-determination, and opposition to Israeli apartheid.

You are now entering Derry, An Apartheid Free Zone

Community and voluntary organisations across Derry have completed a BDS compliance audit as part of a Bloody Sunday Trust initiative to deliver practical solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The voluntary internal exercise allowed organisations to review their suppliers, procurement processes and financial relationships to identify any links with companies named by the BDS Movement as priority targets for boycott because of their involvement in violations of international law.

The initiative was first launched to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November 2025 and has received strong support from across the community and voluntary sector in Derry.

To highlight that solidarity, residents and community groups will erect signage across the city on 20 August stating:

“You are now entering Derry, An Apartheid Free Zone.”

The initiative reflects the unwavering support across Derry for the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and self-determination.
