The first-ever worldwide Marian Eucharistic procession, spanning six continents, took place on June 13 to honor the Mother of God. In Derry city, Northern Ireland alone, over thousands of Catholics across the world took part in the Eucharistic processions to mark the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Fátima, and the feast of St. Anthony of Padua.
The Guardians of the Faith group in Northern Ireland coordinated with 550 parishes and 15 prominent shrines across the globe to bring Catholics together at the same time in Eucharistic adoration in different parts of the world. Some of the participating Marian shrines were Knock, Fátima, Lourdes, La Salette, Pontmain Shrine, Garabandal in Spain, Beauraing Shrine in Belgium, and Sr. Lucia’s convent in Portugal.
After the opening Mass celebrated at the Creggan estate, the participants walked the route of the civil rights march of 1972 to the Long Tower church - the home parish of Servant of God Sister Clare Crockett, who died in Ecuador at the age of 33. The prayer intentions for the Eucharistic procession included: triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, reparation for sins, conversion of sinners, and an end to the culture of death. In an interview given to EWTN News, Guardians of the faith who organized the procession in Derry, stated that last year’s Eucharistic procession resulted in an increase in Mass attendance, vocations, conversions, and a renewal of faith among the local Gen Z population
