📣CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

How can we use compassion to respond to political grief?

While most of us think of grief as an individual response to loss, political grief encompasses the direct losses experienced by individuals and groups resulting from political policies, ideologies, and oppression enacted and/or perpetuated at the sociopolitical levels.

Join us in Birmingham as Prof Darcy Harris delivers a Keynote on Compassionately Responding to Political Grief at the 15th International CFT Conference.

Darcy will examine the suffering that caused by political leaders, policies and laws around the world, the diverse range of responses to the loss and grief felt both personally and collectively and will identify ways to respond constructively and intentionally through compassion-oriented practices.

Prof Darcy Harris is a Professor Emeritus of Thanatology at King’s University College, Western University in London, Canada, where she has also maintained a private clinical practice for 30 years specialising in change, loss, and transition.

She has published numerous articles, monographs and book chapters and is co-editor for Routledge Publishing Company’s Death, Dying, and Bereavement Series. Darcy has served on the board of directors of the Association for Death Education and Counselling and currently serves on the board of directors of the International Work Group on Death, Dying, and Bereavement.

For 20 years, one of our core aims has been to develop the scientific understanding and application of compassion.

Today, more than 500 studies across 40+ countries draw on Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Compassionate Mind Training (CMT), thanks to an incredible international community of researchers, practitioners and collaborators.

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we're highlighting just a few of the studies that have helped shape the field - from large-scale meta-analyses to research exploring the clinical applications of CFT. Here are the first 3 papers we want to spotlight:

📖 The Impact of Compassion-Focused Therapy on Positive and Negative Mental Health Outcomes: Results of a Series of Meta-Analyses

📖 Threat, safety and social safeness 30 years on: Fundamental dimensions and distinctions for mental health and well-being

📣CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

We are delighted Professor Allison Kelly will join us in Birmingham to deliver a keynote on Caring Minds in Competitive Worlds: How Social Context Shapes Access to Self-Compassion for the 15th International CFT Conference.

This keynote brings together research exploring self-compassion as a socially embedded process, one that can be inhibited in competitive contexts and supported in caring, and compassionate environments. This talk aims to extend core principles of CFT, offer insight into variability in responses and highlight new directions for research and practice.
