Cosby Yarn Bomb Bringing people together, reducing isolation & improving wellbeing with creative community projects

Inclusive & accessible, outdoor community arts events by local not for profit organisation Gather Create Grow CIC. Created by the community for the community - designed to uplift, inspire & bring joy! Our flagship event takes place over 3 weeks each summer, when the village of Cosby in South Leicestershire is transformed with a trail of over 50, huge art installations all made by the local communi

ty from yarn & textiles. The event is an annual showcase of projects we run throughout the year with the aim of improving wellbeing, reducing feelings of isolation & nurturing community togetherness. Year round projects include; Cosby Crafters, a creative social group - where over 100 members meet twice weekly & have fun, creating displays. Create & Grow Club, a small, weekly creative group to support mental health, schools' outreach projects, partnerships with LA & other organisations, open community workshops & creative callouts.

🌺 COMMUNITY CALL-OUT: REMEMBRANCE POPPY DISPLAY 🌺

We are putting together a special display for Remembrance this autumn, & we’d love our incredible crafting community to get involved!

Here is everything you need to know to take part:

🧶You can collect yarn from the box at Cosby Community Library, Park Road, LE9 1RN (see opening times below). Poppies MUST be made using this specific yarn so they match in colour (If you want to buy your own, it's Paintbox 'Rose Red' available from Love Crafts).

🌺Use any pattern you like! There are a few printed patterns available to grab in the library alongside the yarn, or feel free to use your favourite go-to pattern. Poppies should measure approximately 10cm in diameter & be red & black ONLY. Please NO green leaves.

🚫 Please No Buttons. If your chosen pattern calls for a button centre, please substitute it with a stitched or crocheted black yarn circle instead.

🗓️ Deadline: Please drop your finished poppies back into the collection box at Cosby Community Library by Saturday 3rd October 2026.

😁Happy Fri-Yay!😁

The kids are back at school & normality is restored! (Well... as 'normal' as it gets round here!) 🤪

We've been breaking our Cosby Crafters back in slowly by continuing with making crafty keyrings & working own projects this week. After the bank holiday we'll be back with a bang with Christmas projects! Nat's back from her hols fully refreshed & full of ideas! Watch out gang! 🤣

Behind the scenes we've already worked out our first big element of the Christmas scene & projects will be available when we return on 7th September! 🙌

🌺We've also got an idea brewing for a remembrance display... so projects coming on that soon too! 👍

It was really lovely to be back together at Create & Grow Club after a week off. We had fun making tassel decs (or earrings!) & some beautiful origami flowers! Some great results! Well done team!👏

Unfortunately, we cant keep hold of things any longer. Anything not claimed by Saturday 29th August 2026 will be donated to charity or disposed of.

It's a short but sweet FRI-YAY this week!

🌞Our Cosby Crafters crew have been on an absolute roll this week turning out gorgeous crafty keyrings. At this rate, the stock room for Yarn Bomb 2028 is going to be bursting at the seams! Speaking of 2028, this week we even started talking about what the theme might be... already there are some exciting ideas being thrown about! We're keeping these discussions under our hat for now now!🧐

🧶Tuesday we invited volunteers to come along again to help us sort yarn donations. Thanks crew for your help, It's much appreciated. Word on the street is that we might have enough surplus for a legendary Yarn Sale soon... so keep those eyes peeled on our socials! 👀

🧵There was no Create & Grow Club this week due to the Village Hall being temporarily out of action, but we can't wait to jump straight back into the crafty chaos with them next week! 🥰

🌞😎HAPPY FRI-YAY!🌞😎

Guess who's back?! Cosby Crafters! It was so lovely to be back together with our crew again! We saw some new faces too... welcome to the madness! We hope you enjoyed yourselves 🥰

🎅There's no yarn bomb projects currently in progress (although ideas for... uh hum... Christmas are currently floating around... too early for the C word?😬) so we thought we'd get ahead of the game & start making our crafty keyrings ready for Yarn Bomb 2028! You may think this is mad but this year we sold over 100 every day! Our poor crafty crew couldn't keep up with demand! 🤣

🐝It was a good chance for members to get to grips with some different patterns & have a go at something they've not done before too. Mel led a tutorial on smiley faces whilst Amy helped others with crocheted bees! Thanks to Di for giving a helping hand with knitted ice creams too. Well done everyone! 👏

🎂It was Amy's birthday too so we celebrated with cake of course & insisted she wore her badge and tiara all day!👑

🧶On Tuesday we invited volunteers over to the barn to help us sort thought the mountain of yarn donations we've received over the last month or so! Thank you if you donated some... & BIG THANKS to the team that came to help 🥰

🎨Wednesday at Create & Grow Club, the group worked on their own projects, with all sorts of beautiful crafts going on! We shared ideas for what the group would like to explore over the next few months... there were so many fab ideas! Now, we just need to figure out what to do first! 🤔

🗣️📢💭IT'S A FEEDBACK FRI-YAY!🗣️📢💭

Our usual weekly round up will be back properly next week as we return to our regular routine. We've been continuing with the mammoth task of stripping, deconstructing, washing & putting away all the yarn bomb displays. HUGE thanks to our lovely volunteers that have come to lend a hand 😘

🐵We've also drawn all our Monkey competition winners... check out our posts earlier this week for full details!

👋We did return to Create & Grow Club on Wednesday but we were so busy catching up with everyone & having such a lovely time we didn't take any photographs... doh!🤦‍♀️What was really lovely to hear was that the group have been continuing to meet up each week, testing out all the local cafes in the area over the last 5 weeks (ranking of each establishment available upon request!). As a result of that some lovely friendships have developed & members were even teaching each other to crochet which was so wonderful to see 🫶

🥳We celebrated Natty's birthday this week... with lots of cake, obs! 🤣

What we'd be super grateful for this week is for your feedback on our summer yarn bomb... our questionnaire takes 5 minutes max but is so valuable to us in planning future events. So, if you visited or you live in the village we want to know your thoughts...
