Cosby Yarn Bomb

Cosby Yarn Bomb Bringing people together, reducing isolation & improving wellbeing with creative community projects

Inclusive & accessible, outdoor community arts events by local not for profit organisation Gather Create Grow CIC. Created by the community for the community - designed to uplift, inspire & bring joy! Our flagship event takes place over 3 weeks each summer, when the village of Cosby in South Leicestershire is transformed with a trail of over 50, huge art installations all made by the local communi

ty from yarn & textiles. The event is an annual showcase of projects we run throughout the year with the aim of improving wellbeing, reducing feelings of isolation & nurturing community togetherness. Year round projects include; Cosby Crafters, a creative social group - where over 100 members meet twice weekly & have fun, creating displays. Create & Grow Club, a small, weekly creative group to support mental health, schools' outreach projects, partnerships with LA & other organisations, open community workshops & creative callouts.

Bracrafts began as a creative way to recycle unwanted bras into handmade creations that raise funds & awareness for breast cancer charities. We are proud to support Angela Higson, who founded Bracrafts in 2023. After realising charity shops can't accept bras, Angela began upcycling them to raise funds for breast cancer charities.

PS... Big THANKS to everyone who's donated bras so far! Our collection box is still in the COOP on Main Street if you wisht to donate. Any bras not used for crafting are sent to Against Breast Cancer, where they are recycled to fund pioneering research into secondary breast cancer👍

🧡A HUGE VOLUNTEERS WEEK THANK YOU! 🧡

As a small not-for-profit organisation with just three staff members, there is absolutely no way we’d be able to pull off the extraordinary event that is the Cosby Yarn Bomb without an incredible tribe of volunteers behind us.

Our amazing crew turns up come rain or shine. In the blazing summer sun or the freezing cold winter, these guys always have our back. You are the absolute heartbeat of everything we do, & we love you all! 🥰✨

Whether you have picked up your needles & hooks to knit or crochet, come along to a stitch-up or helped with a mammoth barn tidy, got stuck into the heavy lifting, construction, & installation, or lent a hand at our community workshops, yarn sales & stalls.... YOU make the magic happen!

Your time, energy, creativity, & kindness mean the absolute world to us 🌍

We are SO grateful to everyone who has turned up to help us in the past, & everyone who has signed up to help us get this summer's event off the ground.

Less than 5 weeks to go gang... 😬💪

A HUGE thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Nat, Mel & Amy ###

👉 To our visitors: If you are visiting Cosby this summer & see this wonderful lot in action installing the scenes or working on the stall, please be sure to give them a massive wave or stop by for a chat!

🌟 It's Fri-YAY! 🌟

Wow, what a absolutely full-on week it’s been!

🦘 On Monday at Cosby Crafters it was so exciting to see completed pieces being returned & displays starting to come together. Nat took our "Around the World" theme very seriously & went full Aussie with her flag apron & tinny! Mel also looked different somehow...? 🤔🐼🤣

🎁 We’ve had some incredible returns from the wider community this week too. Huge thanks to Joanne for her gorgeous sloth & birds, Judith for her beautiful mandalas, & Kate & Poppy for their wonderful rainforest animals & flowers. Every single delivery makes us do a little happy dance! 💃

🍄 Wednesday at Create & Grow Club was a bit quieter with a few members away on holiday, but the crew got stuck into needle-felting some fantastic toadstools for our "Mother Earth" display. Fab job ladies 🫶

☕ Meanwhile, Nat and Amy attended the Armed Forces Coffee Morning at Blaby District Council. It was wonderful to catch up with all the lovely attendees. Some helped us stitch up our "Ay up me duck" display, while others made beautiful poppy brooches ready for Remembrance. We also took 'takeaway packs' for the Council staff to make knitted, crocheted, & felt poppies & could barely keep up with the demand! We can’t wait to see what they create 🌺

🏫 On Thursday morning, Mel & Nat visited Countesthorpe Academy for our final anti-discrimination workshop. The students brought so much creativity & their banners look absolutely amazing. We have truly loved being a part of this project with local schools & cannot wait to see it all showcased this summer! 🙌

🚣The rest of our week has been a whirlwind of prep for the Leicester Riverside Festival this weekend! Come and find us this Saturday in Castle Gardens alongside the brilliant BrightSparks Arts. We’ll be running our free fabric butterfly & woven heart workshop, so please come down, say hello, & get crafting with us! 🦋
