🍂 From fascinating fungi to the colourful fruits of the spindle tree, there’s plenty to spot at Westmead Open Space this autumn.

After pollination, spindle flowers develop into bright pink fruits that split open to reveal vivid orange seeds, which look a little like popcorn! (Not to be eaten though!)

Next time you visit, why not see what you can spot? Look out for fungi in the grass, colourful berries and other signs of autumn. Let us know what you discover!

“It has helped us settle in properly and made the house feel like a home.”

A recent grant helped a local household with the cost of a cooker, washing machine, bed, mattress and two chests of drawers, everyday essentials that can make a big difference, but aren’t always easy to afford when money is tight.

Could we help you, too?

We’re at the Chippenham Community Hub on Timber Street today (Tues 20th October) from 10am-12pm, offering friendly, confidential support to help you complete a grant application.

No appointment needed, just pop in for a chat with a member of our team.

A colourful thank you!

We were delighted to receive this fantastic piece of artwork this week from Pride in Chippenham.

It’s an offcut from one of the Giant Doodle Art walls created at PrideFest 2026’s Picnic in the Park, presented in recognition of our grant funding towards the event.

Supported by Public Art Chippenham - PAC, the activity invited people to grab a pen and contribute to a giant community masterpiece, bringing people together through creativity and self-expression.

Receiving it was a lovely reminder of what a brilliant event PrideFest’s Picnic in the Park was, bringing people together to celebrate community, inclusivity and diversity.

Thank you Pride in Chippenham 💙

What is the CBLC Christmas voucher scheme?

If you live in the Parish of Chippenham and are on a low income, you may be eligible for a supermarket voucher to help ease the cost of Christmas this year.

Our Christmas Voucher Scheme provides supermarket vouchers of £75-£175 to eligible Chippenham individuals and families on a low income.

The scheme is designed to help ease some of the additional financial pressure that Christmas can bring.

Last year we gave out a total of £47,300 in supermarket vouchers, supporting 316 local households. The messages we received from residents were powerful reminders of why this support matters:

“It’s allowed me to sleep better at night knowing I’m not quite so hard up juggling all the Christmas costs. It’s an amazing scheme for local people and for myself and my family it makes all the difference.”

“It means that I don’t have to worry about buying the food over Christmas. With the kids being off school I need to make sure we have enough in for them and this has made the world of difference.”

“It meant so much to us as a family. It meant we could get Christmas dinner and a few treats without getting into debt. As an unpaid carer, like many people, times are very tough financially.”

Applications for 2026 open on Monday 2nd November.

You can find out more about the scheme, eligibility and how to apply on our website (link in our bio).

Please share this information with anyone who may benefit. Thank you.
