What a fantastic day we’ve had at PrideFest Chippenham's Picnic in the Park! 🏳️‍🌈☀️

The sun shone, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming - and Island Park was full of people of all ages enjoying a fun and inclusive day together.

As funders of Picnic in the Park, it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying everything on offer from relaxing on deckchairs and enjoying the entertainment to dancing (& singing) in the silent disco, meeting Bluey, enjoying great food, face painting, cycling for smoothies, getting creative in the craft tent, finding calm in the sensory space, catching up with friends and much more.

It was also a pleasure to meet so many people at our gazebo, catch up with familiar faces and share more about Chippenham Borough Lands Charity, our grants for individuals and organisations, the Borough Lands themselves, One Chippenham, our history and the work we do across the town.

We were blown away by some of the stories and feedback people shared about our past grant-making and the difference it has made to individuals, families and community groups over the years. Hearing first-hand about the lasting impact of that support was incredibly special.

Huge congratulations to the Pride in Chippenham team and the many volunteers, organisations, performers, businesses and supporters who made the day so special. Events like this don't happen without enormous amounts of time, energy and commitment - and the warm, vibrant and inclusive atmosphere in Island Park was thanks to everything they put in.

We're proud to play our part in supporting such a brilliant day for Chippenham. We hope everyone who attended had a wonderful day, has a fabulous evening and enjoys the second day of Pride and Eco-Fest tomorrow! 🌈

We’re proud to be among the many businesses, organisations and community groups helping to make PrideFest Chippenham possible this weekend. 🏳️‍🌈

As Pride in Chippenham’s latest post highlights, events like this only happen because so many people come together to support a shared vision of an inclusive, welcoming and vibrant community.

We’re delighted to be funding Picnic in the Park at Island Park and look forward to seeing everyone there. If you’re attending, do stop by the Chippenham Borough Lands Charity gazebo to find out more about our grant-making and community support work including how we may be able to help you or your group, organisation or project.

Thank you to the PrideFest team and everyone involved in making this weekend happen. 🌈

We’ve highlighted volunteers caring for our green spaces this week but Volunteers’ Week is also an opportunity to recognise those who volunteer behind the scenes.

Our trustees give their time, knowledge and experience to help guide Chippenham Borough Lands Charity and support our work for the people of Chippenham.

Their commitment underpins everything we do - from caring for green spaces and community assets to providing grants and welfare support across the town.

Thank you to Annette, Gary, Geraldine, Jenny, Sue and Sylvia for the role you play in guiding our charity and a warm welcome to our two new trustees, Matthew and Miles.

We’d also like to recognise the many volunteers supporting local groups, charities and organisations across Chippenham. We’re fortunate to work alongside so many organisations powered by volunteers making a positive difference to local people every day.

If your organisation is looking to recruit volunteers, opportunities can be shared on the One Chippenham community website.

Thank you to our trustees, past and present, and to every volunteer who gives their time for the benefit of others. ⭐️

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’d like to recognise and thank the dedicated volunteers who care for Mortimore’s Wood.

For many years, these volunteers have played the leading role in looking after this ancient woodland, carrying out practical tasks that help maintain paths, manage habitats and keep the wood welcoming for visitors.

Some members of the group have been volunteering at Mortimore’s Wood for more than 25 years, demonstrating an amazing commitment to this increasingly rare habitat and the local community.

The woodland we enjoy today is a reflection of their hard work, continuing with the knowledge and dedication from centuries of careful management by the population of Chippenham, past and present.

Thank you to all the volunteers, past and present, who have helped care for Mortimore’s Wood and ensure it continues to thrive for future generations.

This made us smile.

“Thank you for your help with everything. I have just put my first washing load on! Makes it feel like home now.”

It’s a lovely reminder that sometimes it’s the everyday things we can easily take for granted that make all the difference.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’d like to thank the Baydons Meadow Wildlife Group for their ongoing commitment to caring for this important community green space.

Through practical conservation work and careful management, the volunteers have helped create the conditions for wildflowers to thrive across the meadow. As a result, the group is particularly proud of the abundance of butterflies and moths now found at the site, which in turn support the bats that regularly forage there.

Baydons Meadow supports biodiversity and provides accessible natural habitat within Chippenham, and these photographs highlight just some of the rich variety of wildlife and habitats that benefit from the volunteers’ efforts.

Thank you to all the volunteers whose hard work, knowledge and dedication continue to make a real difference throughout the year.

🍃📷 A few photos from a wander around Westmead Open Space yesterday including some of the woodland creature sculptures, native wild roses and damselflies spotted along the route.

Following recent damage to some of the sculptures we are pleased to say they have been given some TLC by volunteers from Chippenham Shed, helping restore these popular features for visitors to enjoy once again.

We are also delighted that the original artist, Oliver Adams, has kindly agreed to sculpt a replacement for the missing woodpecker. A big thank you to the volunteers at Chippenham Shed and Oliver for their work and support.

Chippenham Borough Lands Charity is proud to care for and protect Westmead as an important community green space for both wildlife and local residents.
