Welcome to the team - Bec and Abi our new Housing and Homelessness Workers– although they have been here since July the 6th! 🩷🩷

Abi joined us after completing her degree in forensic psychology where she gained knowledge on behaviours of victims and perpetrators of crime and the vulnerabilities and challenges individuals face, and therefore she is driven to support vulnerable people at Pathways.

Welcome back Bec! She has returned to Pathways as her heart is still with the clients and our charity. Originally our Recovery Worker back in 2024 Bec knows our clients and the work we do. She has the experience, knowledge and compassion to make a real difference.

Both ladies are already making a difference with their cool heads and warm hearts. The staff and volunteers at 120 Saltergate are far richer for having them on team.

We wish them luck in their new roles and welcome them to Pathways wholeheartedly. 🌟💜💜

💙 ONE SMALL ACT OF KINDNESS CAN CHANGE SOMEONE’S LIFE.

Today is International Day of Charity — a chance to celebrate the incredible difference that kindness, compassion and generosity can make.

At Pathways, we see it every day. A warm meal. A friendly face. A listening ear. A helping hand. Sometimes, it’s these simple things that give someone the hope and confidence to take their next step. ❤️

Our amazing volunteers, supporters, donors, staff and community partners make our work possible — helping people experiencing homelessness and hardship find hope, dignity and a pathway towards a brighter future.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who supports Pathways.

Whether you give your time, donate, fundraise, share our story or simply show compassion — you can make a difference.

🌟 Together, we can help people find their pathway forward.

🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: IAN 🌟

Behind every community organisation are people who give their time, skills and heart to make a difference. At Pathways, Ian is one of those people. ❤️

Ian has supported Pathways for more than 20 years, ever since a friend and fellow church member began raising awareness about the charity. After retiring from a career spanning advertising, graphic design, print businesses, IT and local government, Ian decided it was time to turn his experience — and, more importantly, his compassion for others — towards helping people in need.

His journey with Pathways began as a volunteer, helping at Drop Ins, Outreach, Rough Sleeper Breakfasts and Christmas lunches. Today, Ian is both a trustee and a hands-on volunteer, continuing to give his time every week.

🎨 On Tuesdays, you’ll find Ian helping with our Art Group and cooking lunch.

🍳 On Thursday mornings, he’s up early cooking breakfast for people experiencing homelessness.

🌱 He also encourages service users through art projects and working in the allotment — always looking for ways to help people discover confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement.

And Ian certainly isn't new to supporting people in difficult situations. He and his wife Yvonne have been Street Pastors, spending Saturday nights looking after vulnerable people in Chesterfield, and they helped run night shelters for rough sleepers across seven church premises, providing food, somewhere safe to sleep, haircuts, clothing and plenty of TLC.

So what keeps Ian coming back?

People.

“I always had a compassion for the underdog, especially those whose path in life had not gone smoothly.”

For Ian, one of the most rewarding parts of volunteering is witnessing someone move from a place of loneliness, addiction, poor mental health or despair towards a brighter future.

He loves seeing people discover what they're capable of — whether that's creating something amazing in the Art Group, trying a nourishing meal for the first time, or simply finding the confidence to take another step forward.

And when asked to describe Pathways in just one word, Ian chose:
❤️ Compassion.

Perhaps that's no surprise.

Ian's passion comes from wanting people to escape their existing lives for much better ones. He understands that life can sometimes take unexpected and difficult turns, and believes everyone deserves the opportunity to find hope, dignity and a better future.

Beyond Pathways, Ian continues to give back to the community. He is Chair of the Loundsley Green Community Trust and volunteers with the Community Centre and Green Business & Training Centre. He enjoys art, music, gardening, walking, swimming and reading, and shares his passion for helping others with his wife, Yvonne.

Looking ahead, Ian hopes Pathways can continue to grow, secure more funding, provide better facilities and, most importantly, see more people housed, stronger and able to escape poverty.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything Ian brings to Pathways — his experience, humour, practical skills, creativity and, above all, his compassion. 💙

Thank you, Ian, for everything you do. Love from everyone at Pathways. XX

🎨🖌️ A little trip to The Hub… and a lot of creativity! 🌈

Today we popped along to The Hub to meet the lovely Sarah and James at FeelingConnected , who have kindly let us use their window to create a display for our upcoming art exhibition. A huge thank you to them for giving us the space to promote our event!💛

The window might be small, but that didn’t stop us from squeezing in as much colour as possible! 😂 In fact, Steve had to demonstrate some impressive contortionist skills to get everything in place. Who knew he was so flexible?! 🤸‍♂️🤣

Well done, Steve, for doing such a brilliant job setting it all up. The paintbrushes look fantastic and the whole display is bursting with colour! 🖌️🎨🌈

We hope people will stop, have a look and enjoy our little splash of creativity — and, most importantly, we hope you’ll come along to The Hub and see the real thing at our art exhibition on Wednesday 16th September! 🥳🎨

Come along, support our artists and enjoy some fantastic artwork. We’d love to see you there! ❤️

💜 International Overdose Awareness Day — 31 August 2026!

Overdose prevention solutions exist. Let’s use them.

An overdose happens when your body can’t cope with the amount or combination of drugs in your system. It can happen to anyone, and the risks can increase when substances are mixed — whether they are prescribed or not.

But there are things we can do to reduce the risk. 👇
⚠️ Know your tolerance. Tolerance can increase over time, meaning you may need more of a substance to achieve the same effect. But tolerance can also drop after a break, making a dose that once felt familiar much more dangerous.

💊 Be aware of what’s already in your system. Drugs have different half-lives, meaning they can remain in your body for hours or even days. Taking another dose before the previous one has left your system can mean there is more of the substance in your body than you realise.

🧪 Know that the drug supply can change. Substances can be contaminated or mixed with unexpected drugs. Recent alerts and warnings remind us that you may not always know exactly what is in a substance.

🚨 Know what to do in an emergency. An overdose can be fatal, but many overdoses are survivable when the right help is given quickly.

At Pathways, we have naloxone available on our premises in case someone experiences an opioid overdose.

If you think someone may be overdosing, don't wait and don't be afraid to ask for help. Call 999 immediately.

💜 One call could save a life. One dose of naloxone could save a life. One conversation could save a life.

This Overdose Awareness Day, let's talk openly, share knowledge, reduce stigma and make sure people know that overdose prevention solutions exist — and they can save lives.

A huge thank you to Scott and Horizon Plumbing for their incredibly generous donation of clothing. 💙 It’s fantastic to see a local business doing their bit to support people in our community.

We’d also like to give a massive shout-out to Skye Kray for an amazing donation of 40 sleeping bags — yes, you read that right… 40! 😲 They filled two very large boxes! This isn't Skye's first donation it's his 9th! What commitment and dedication!

We are always in need of essential goods, and we truly appreciate every thought, donation and act of kindness that helps Pathways support homeless and vulnerable people in our community.

Your generosity really does make a difference. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us! 🙏

When 77-year-old Bryan first came to Pathways, he had spent years between rough sleeping, sofa surfing, relationship breakdowns and trying to navigate a support system that often felt impossible to access alone.

His health was deteriorating. Living with liver cancer, COPD, asthma, angina, mobility issues and injuries sustained whilst rough sleeping, he faced daily challenges that most of us can barely imagine. He struggled to manage appointments, keep track of medication and advocate for himself. Ongoing cancer monitoring had even fallen through the cracks.

At Pathways, we knew that simply signposting wasn't enough.

Our team worked alongside multiple agencies to coordinate the support he needed. We helped him register with a local GP, addressed issues around medication, advocated for his healthcare needs and made referrals to Adult Social Care due to concerns about his ability to manage independently.

We also worked closely with the council to secure a suitable bungalow that met his accessibility needs, including level access and adaptations to help him live safely.

Alongside this, we supported applications for Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, helping him maximise his income and regain financial stability.

Finally, we secured funding for essential furniture, ensuring his new house could become a home.

Today, Bryan has a safe place to live and the support around him that he needs. While there are still challenges ahead, he no longer has to face them alone.

Everyone deserves the chance to live with security, comfort and hope.

🌹Lovely Flowers from a Lovely Lad! 🌹

One of our service users dropped these beautiful flowers off for the staff at Pathways, he just wanted to say thank you! What a lovely sentiment.

In particular he wanted to thank Wojciech, he said that he is grateful for all we do and that he doesn't know where he would be without Pathways!

Well done to the team for making such an impact on someone's life.

They look pretty on our kitchen windowsill. 🩷
