Ravenshead U3A joined us on the Chesterfield Canal for a private charter on Narrowboat Madeline this week.

Fancy a fully-crewed cruise with friends, family or with members of your society or group?
We can take up to 12 passengers and you can try your hand at steering and have a go at operating the locks.
A two hour charter costs £140 which works out £12 per person (with 12 passengers). Tea and coffee are provided. You're welcome to bring your own buffet or we can organise afternoon teas (additional £9 pp) or fish and chips (at an additional £11 pp).

It was a bit of a busman's holiday for one of our visitors to the Chesterfield Canal yesterday.
🇩🇪German family man, Joachim Geisau, who holds a small boats licence at home, was an absolute natural at the helm on Narrowboat Madeline.
Joachim, from Cologne, shared with us some wonderful photos and said: "Thank you for having us!"

🦆Passengers today took to steering like ducks to water!
Skipper John T was most impressed with our visitors on board Narrowboat Madeline this morning who visited from Barnsley, Derby and the Nottingham area.
We run hour long trips out of Hollingwood Hub, near Staveley, every Saturday to raise money for the Chesterfield Canal Restoration Fund (£7/£5).

A specialist valuer visited the Chesterfield Canal Trust 's boat fleet for insurance purposes this week.
He visited Python at Retford and Worksop Boat Club, NB Hugh Henshall and Dawn Rose at Shireoaks Marina, Seth Ellis at the Chequers at Ranby, NB John Varley II at Tapton Lock and NB Madeline at Hollingwood Hub.
Python is an historic workboat, Dawn Rose is a replica Cuckoo boat, and the rest are public and private hire trip boats.

The NB Madeline Cut Crew was out tidying up a few large obstructions on the Chesterfield Canal last week.
Overhanging and fallen trees between Troughbrook and Dixon's Lock had been making navigation tricky.
The Cut Crew, which goes out monthly with skippers and community volunteers, also cleared litter from the towpath.

There's always something going on behind the scenes to keep the Chesterfield Canal s***k and span!
Tags and scrawls spray painted around Bluebank Lock have been removed by Narrowboat Madeline Skipper Andy Ledbetter.
Andy was volunteering in Australia when he came across a wonder product to help get rid of graffiti.
Once home, he set to work and quickly removed the offending items.
Thanks Andy.

Grandparents from Old Whittington, with their grandchildren, and a couple from Croydon, were just some of the passengers enjoying a sunny BHM afternoon cruise on Narrowboat Madeline.
The Chesterfield Canal at Hollingwood Hub was busy both on the water and on the towpath.
