Calow Gala is a non profit organisation whose primary function is to provide social events to encourage community cohesion and hold a Gala event each August where we showcase local talent in the arts and sport plus signposting people to help that's needed The Gala had not been held for 40 years but following the Covid 19 pandemic people started to talk about how good it used to be and questioned w
hether it would be possible to have it held again. People needed something to look forward to and something that would engage the community in Calow and surrounding areas. We are proud to say that we successfully held our first Gala in August 2023 and it will now be an annual event once again. We want it to be more than just a good day out for people. We live in uneasy times at the moment and people are struggling with all sorts of problems. Finance, Health (including Mental Health) and Education to name a few. We want to try and help those who are struggling by signposting them to organisations who can help. At our first Gala we had stalls for Charities & other organisations and we plan to increase the numbers of these at future Gala's to include people who can help with unemployment advice, mental health issues, help with benefits etc. There are also people in the community who are lonely, isolated and have mobility issues which reduces their opportunities to engage with others. By holding the annual Gala it can be an opportunity for these people to feel part of the community again. We had a very successful day with live musicians at the Gala and we will continue to encourage local talent by showcasing musicians and other artistes to new audiences. We want to include everyone in our activities and welcome support, ideas, advice etc. We are thankful to those companies which offered us sponsorship last year and the ongoing support of everyone in the community.
