The Deltic Preservation Society The Deltic Preservation Society was formed in 1977 to preserve working Deltic diesel locomotives. In 1991 the Society became a registered charity.

The Deltic Preservation Society was formed in 1977 by a small group of enthusiasts determined to preserve a working Deltic diesel locomotive after final withdrawal by British Rail. The ambition has been achieved threefold by the successful purchase of Alycidon, Tulyar and Royal Highland Fusilier which have now been in preservation for 40 + years - longer than BR owned them! Our aims are to preserve, maintain and promote Deltic diesel locomotives. Our Deltics are now 60+ years old and need constant care to keep them operating. We rely heavily on our members and supporters who give generously through membership fees and donations.

Don’t forget the clocks go back 1hr at 2am tomorrow.
For those with smart phones this will happen automatically. Oven and microwave clocks may take a few days and the one in your car will be correct again at the end of March 2027.

It’s been a busy week with Tulyar on the GCR. Four full days of DATEX with over a dozen people taking the controls of D9015 in the first driver experiences on the loco this century!
Logistically, supplying loco crew was an adventure in itself, and in a fine example of heritage railways and preservation societies working together, GCR drivers Nigel Ball,Michael Cort and John Pepper were joined by SVR stalwarts Gus Dunster and Bob Dunn alongside a supporting cast of GCR loco crews and DPS travelling fitters.

Well done everybody!

As we get to that time of year when Christmas is looming, it’s planned to have a larger than usual sales stand at the DPS depot over three weekends during the run up to the end of the season at Barrow Hill.

These will be as follows,

Saturday 31st October & Sunday 1st November (to tie in with our raffle draw)
Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th November
Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th December (Last open weekend)

There’s also a large selection of merchandise , including Tulyar themed raffle tickets, available from the DPS website shop.

Following on from the GCR B**r Festival which saw D9015 on display at Rothley Carriage & Wagon Works, the loco has stayed a few extra weeks for some paintwork and varnish repairs. A superb job as always with thanks to Jamie Swanson!
