Exciting times at the Community Centre as Christina joins the team as our Wellbeing Coordinator. The Wellbeing project is funded by Durham County Council’s ‘Thriving Together’ Fund. The funding supports activities that strengthen community connections, improve wellbeing and help people thrive.

The focus of the project in the launch stage is our weekly Wellbeing Cafe, launching Wednesday 18th November 11am-3pm where Christina will be here with a warm welcome & a brew ☕️ 🫖

As head volunteer and cook at Nettlesworth Community Centre, Lillian has created more than a place to enjoy lunch. Every Monday, she helps bring around 20 people together for food, conversation and friendship.

When M arrived from Ukraine, Lillian made a special effort to help her feel welcome, patiently helping her settle in and even preparing a meal to meet her dietary needs.

That kindness has helped M feel at home in a new community, and she still travels two buses every week to be part of the cafe.

It’s a wonderful example of how one person’s welcome can bring people together and create friendships that last.

Lillian was recognised for her incredible work with the Unlikely Friendships Award at this year’s Warm Welcome Awards. 💜
