We had a lovely afternoon with Gwent Wildlife Trust Trust and the Age Alive community group decorating wood cookies 🌿

It was a simple but meaningful activity, exploring how natural materials can be incorporated into art. Everyone decorated their own wood cookie, making a unique keepsake to take home.

Alongside the creativity, there was plenty of conversation, laughter and community connection.

A day in Bangor, exploring nature together 🌿

The group spent time walking through local green spaces, meeting new people and learning about the plants and wildlife around them. For some, it was also a chance to explore places they hadn't visited before and experience nature from a new perspective.

Spending time in nature isn't always easy for everyone. Costs, transport, health and other barriers can make it harder to get outdoors. Our activities offer a welcoming way to connect with nature, spend time with others and discover something new.

A big thank you to our partner, North Wales Wildlife Trust, for leading the wildlife walk and sharing their knowledge of Bangor's nature and wildlife.

This keeps the focus on participants' experience first, then gives credit to the partner at the end.

Meet our partner, Cardiff University’s Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST).

People’s experiences of environmental issues are shaped by their circumstances, backgrounds and daily lives. These differences can influence how they view a changing climate and the choices available to them.

Through Climate Justice Cymru, we are working with Professor Wouter Poortinga and Dr Briony Latter to explore how people across Wales understand environmental challenges and respond to them in their own way.

This work will help us gain a deeper understanding of the factors that influence everyday decisions, the barriers people face, and what meaningful change looks like for different communities.

🌿 A lovely day at the The National Botanic Garden of Wales , starting around the fire making traditional Welsh cawl, fresh bread and Welsh cakes together.

After lunch, we explored the gardens and visited the Great Glasshouse, home to plants from around the world.

Days like this remind us why climate justice matters. Cost, transport, caring responsibilities and other barriers can make accessing nature difficult for many people. Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy and connect with the natural world.

We hope everyone enjoyed the chance to get outdoors, connect with others and take a break from everyday pressures.

🍽️ Today is the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

Most of us have found something forgotten at the back of the fridge. It happens, but making better use of the food we already have can benefit both people and the planet.

According to the United Nations, one in eleven people worldwide goes hungry, while households waste more than one billion meals' worth of edible food every day.

Every meal represents water, land, energy and labour. Making food go further can help protect these resources and reduce the amount sent to landfill.

Food waste is also linked to climate justice because access to nutritious food, rising costs and the impacts of climate change are not experienced equally.

Small actions can make a difference. Freezing extra portions, sharing surplus food or turning leftovers into a new meal can help reduce food waste and make the most of the resources behind every meal.

💬 What's your favourite leftover recipe?

From woodlands and wetlands to coastlines and islands, The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales - WTSWW cares for more than 100 nature reserves and works to protect and restore some of Wales' most important wildlife and wild places.

Through events, training and community projects, they help people connect with nature, learn about local wildlife and play an active role in restoring the natural world.

Access to nature is a key part of climate justice. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy green spaces and have a voice in protecting the places that matter to them.

Through Climate Justice Cymru, we're proud to work together to make nature and climate action more welcoming, inclusive and accessible for communities across Wales.

During Try the Train, young people preparing to go back to school practised travelling from Grangetown to Fairwater. For them, travelling by train was a new experience because they rarely use it.

The session gave them a chance to learn how to plan a journey, read a timetable, get a ticket and find the right platform, all in a relaxed and supportive setting.

Accessibility is not only about having public transport nearby. It is also about having the information, confidence and support needed to use it.

Taking the train can reduce reliance on cars, but greener travel needs to be accessible and practical for the people using it. Removing the barriers that prevent people from travelling sustainably is an important part of climate justice.

🎥 Watch the video to hear what they thought and whether they would take the train again.

What would make public transport easier for young people in your community?

What happens to something after we throw it "away"? 🌍

The truth is, there is no "away". Our waste goes somewhere, whether that's landfill, incineration, or the wider environment. Along the way, it can contribute to pollution, deplete valuable resources, and damage ecosystems.

Zero Waste Week, taking place from 7-11 September 2026, is a global campaign encouraging people to reduce waste through reusing, repairing, recycling, and repurposing.

Everyone should have access to affordable, sustainable ways to reduce waste. While individual actions matter, businesses and decision-makers must also play their part in creating lasting change.

What will you try this Zero Waste Week?
