We're taking a short summer break! Here's what you need to know:

📌 Web Referral Form enquiries – last accepted Monday, 3 August, 5pm
📌 Phone helplines & Facebook forum – operating until Thursday, 6 August, 4pm
📌 All services close from Friday, 7 August, reopening Monday, 24 August, 9am

This break lets our volunteers and staff take a well-deserved rest, while others keep working on current cases – so we can keep supporting the EU and Ukrainian communities we serve.

🏖️ Summer holidays are just around the corner. Take a few minutes before you travel to check your immigration status and avoid trouble at the border.

If you have settled or pre-settled status, make sure you can access your digital status and generate a share code, and that your contact details are up to date in your UKVI account.

If you're travelling with children, make sure every child who needs an immigration status has one, and that their details are up to date before you travel. We still see cases where parents assumed their children were automatically added to their own EUSS status, or gained British nationality by being born here – this isn't always the case.

If you can't access your status or you're unsure whether everything is in order, do not apply for an ETA if you already have settled or pre-settled status. Contact the Home Office Resolution Centre for help – it's easier to resolve these issues before you travel than when you're trying to return to the UK.

Since April 2026 the Home Office has speeded up decisions to curtail pre-settled status for EU citizens who have been absent from the UK for over five consecutive years, indicating they haven't made the UK their home.

Curtail is the word that the Home Office uses if it takes away a person’s immigration status and their rights to live in the UK.

This week alone, Settled’s advisers are supporting two people who received Home Office ‘minded to curtail’ letters and are extremely worried about losing their pre-settled status.

One is an elderly woman. The other is a vulnerable man with learning disabilities and mental health issues. Both have had periods abroad, but have not even exceeded two consecutive years. Both have their families here, consider the UK their home, and have no one to look after them in their countries of origin. If their status is revoked, they will have nowhere to go.

We, at Settled, are deeply concerned about the apparent shift in how the Home Office is applying curtailment rules and the risks for vulnerable EU citizens in the UK.
