Last Friday, we attended a special reception at the Embassy of Spain in the United Kingdom in recognition of Sylvia Ordas's valuable contribution to Spanish citizens in the UK. Sylvia is the former chair of Coalición de Españoles en Reino Unido and a long-standing Settled volunteer.

Since joining Settled when it began in 2019, Sylvia has helped over 1,500 Spanish and European citizens secure their EUSS status.

The event was also an opportunity to discuss the future of Europeans in the UK and the ongoing need for advice for EU citizens, as well as to raise concerns about hostility in UK communities.

We would like to thank the Spanish Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms. Emma Aparici Vázquez de Parga, and her embassy colleagues for hosting such a warm event.

A huge thank you also goes to Sylvia for her dedication to Settled, and to Coalición de Españoles en el Reino Unido for their generous donation.

A 78-year-old British widow is facing removal from Sweden after 21 years living there – a case recently covered by The Guardian and BBC News.

Settled helps EU citizens secure their right to remain in the UK post-Brexit. In the past two years alone, we have supported over one hundred individual complex cases for Swedish citizens.

We believe British citizens who built their lives in the EU deserve the same protection. We're very concerned about Joyce Thomas's case and join others in urging the Swedish authorities to treat it fairly and with compassion.
