As Cardiff comes alive this weekend to celebrate Pride Cymru, everyone at FibroSupport-Wales would like to extend our warmest wishes to all those taking part in the celebrations.

Pride is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, inclusion, equality, and the strength of communities coming together. It is a time to recognise and honour the unique experiences, identities, and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals across Wales and beyond.

At FibroSupport-Wales, we are committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone affected by fibromyalgia. We believe that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and understanding, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances.

The Padlet will be updated regularly with useful information, resources, support services, awareness materials, and community updates related to fibromyalgia.

📢 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝟐𝟑𝟖 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬

Figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) reveal that between September 2024 and March 2025, a total of 238 complaints were made against benefit assessors involved in disability and health-related benefit assessments.

𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏:
• Ingeus – 110
• Capita – 87
• Maximus – 33
• Serco – 4
• DWP – 4

Despite these 238 complaints, not one resulted in disciplinary action.

For many claimants, assessment reports can have a profound impact on their financial security, independence, and wellbeing. These figures are likely to raise important questions about accountability, transparency, and confidence in the assessment process.

While complaints may be addressed through training, feedback, or internal reviews, many will ask whether the current system provides sufficient oversight when concerns are repeatedly raised.

A Disabled Facility Grant (DFG) is a grant paid towards the cost of building works which are required in order to meet the needs of a disabled occupant.

To be eligible for a DFG, you or someone living in your property must be disabled. Either you or the person you are applying for must: -

👉Own the property or be a tenant
👉Intend to live in the property during the grant period (which is currently 5 years).

The Local Authority will need to assess whether the work is: -

👉Necessary and appropriate to meet the disabled person’s needs
👉Is reasonable and can be done – depending on the age and condition of the property.

Today, FibroSupport-Wales was extremely disappointed to hear racial comments made by an individual from another Welsh fibromyalgia charity during a co-production event.

We have formally submitted a complaint to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and are awaiting their response.

FibroSupport-Wales is founded on the principles of equality, respect, diversity, and inclusion. We have a zero-tolerance approach to racism, discrimination, or behaviour that makes others feel unwelcome or unsafe.

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and we will continue to stand up for these values in everything we do.

As Pride Month begins, FibroSupport-Wales is proud to celebrate and recognise the diversity, strength, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made towards equality, while also recognising the importance of continuing to promote inclusion, understanding, and respect for all. Every individual deserves to feel valued, supported, and able to access healthcare, services, and opportunities free from discrimination.

For many people living with fibromyalgia and other long-term health conditions, navigating daily life can be challenging. At FibroSupport-Wales, we believe that support should be accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or background.

Throughout Pride Month, we stand alongside LGBTQ+ individuals, families, friends, carers, volunteers, and professionals, celebrating the contributions they make to our communities and recognising the importance of creating safe and supportive environments where everyone can thrive.
