An event held at Puppet Place on Monday 8th June. Doors are at 16:15 with the event starting at 16:00. The event finishes at 18:30.  

A relaxed hang for anyone interested in getting to know the wider community that has brought the Bristol Experimental Puppetry Festival to life! Hosted in the (hopefully) sunny and spacious garden at puppet place, bring a drink, bring a snack or bring a puppet to chat and chill.

Reference Puppetry Panel!
Apart of the .experimental.puppet

An event held at Puppet Place on Wednesday 10th June. Doors are at 17:45 with the event starting at 18:00. The event finishes at 20:00.

Reference puppetry has been used in the film industry for CGI characters for decades, but new technology may be opening new ways filmmakers can capture puppetrys movements and character for use of animators further down the CGI pipeline. Experimental puppetry start up puppix is at the front edge of this technology and will be demonstrating their rig while Matt Gibbs chairs a discussion with other reference puppetry professionals to explain both the nitty girty and the heart and soul of this unique form of puppetry.

Puppet Place Tours

An event held at Puppet Place on Tuesday 9th June Wednesday 10th June, Thursday 11th June. The event starts at 11:30 and finishes at 12:15.

As part of the Bristol Experimental Puppetry Festival, .experimental.puppet Puppet place will be opening its fabrication spaces to a small tour on Tuesday the 9th, Wednesday the 10th and Thursday the 11th of June. This space is a cave of wonders for the puppet enthusiast, housing 24 working puppet artists there is a lot going on and a lot to see! Be advised tho, it is a working building and there may be some works in progress that the tour needs to be quiet around or that may not allow pictures.

If you have access needs please reach out, we are not a fully accessible building but we are happy to talk through accommodations and see what we can do to help.

Meet Puppet Place Cabaret’s incomparable compere and host with the most…heads: Chatsworth and Lyle AKA Iguana B. Goode AKA The Rock Harmonica Lizard!

Chatsworth is high-vibes rock and roll, whilst Lyle, ‘on the other hand’, is hi-vis health and safety. Lyle monitors the sound levels whilst Chatsworth climbs the monitors like the monitor-lizard king he is. Together they guarantee a puppet party as hot as hell at a safe and sensible number of decibels.

Note: Chatsworth and Lyle’s tech team, and from , request audiences bear with their clients’ stage lamps being set to unusually warm. As they explain: “The boys don’t just bask in the spotlight because they’re divas — it’s essential for thermoregulation.”

Morbid Merriments 'AnOtherness' at National Trust Tyntesfield's 'Reviving Gothic' exhibition

Step inside the Drawing Room at Tyntesfield House and discover a striking exhibition of Gothic art by six diverse and pioneering contemporary artists, each responding to the house's layered past with a modern take on Gothic Revival.
Dark, atmospheric and evocative - this is Gothic as you've never seen it before.

Puppet Place's resident artist and Marionette Maker Morbid Merriments will be showcasing the Endangered Heritage Craft with a new piece of her work 'AnOtherness' at this upcoming exhibition.
Beautifully Grotesque, Unapologetically Other and always crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Morbid Merriments embodies all that is true to Gothic Romanticism whilst maintaining a truly authentic style.

Friday 12 June: Puppets in Prague Marionette workshop

Join Johana Trejtnar, an instructor at  who is hosting a 1.5-hour workshop on Czech marionettes in the Fabrication Workshop at Puppet Place on Friday 12 June from 11:30-13:00.

The workshop will cover the basics of: 

​Czech puppet history 

​Designing your marionette

​ Carving a head 

​Marionette-manipulation 

​Capacity for the workshop is very limited, so please make sure to sign up at the link below.

Workshop fee is £25 per person and is only suitable for 18+.
