Is blackbird song your favourite? 🐦

Blackbirds are masters of adaptability, they thrive in rural, suburban and urban habitats.
Wildlife friendly gardens with plenty of insect life can attract blackbirds to feed and nest. In fact, one bird-ringing study found that 74 individual blackbirds visited a single garden in one day 😮

If you’re looking for ways to create a more wildlife friendly garden so you can hear more blackbird song, head to avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/mini-meadows-team-wilder

Our Children and Young People team has secured funding from The Wildlife Trust to deliver an exciting new project called ‘Naturally Connected Young People’ next year!

We’ll be partnering with secondary schools and youth organisations to work with underserved 11-16-year-olds, reaching out to them in their spaces and connecting them with the natural world.

We hope to help young people understand the benefits of nature for their mental health and wellbeing, and to support them to begin building a lifelong relationship with the natural world.

Watch this space for more details as we put the programme together and build our network of partners!

What is climate resilience❓
Ever wondered why some streets stay cool in a heatwave 😎 while others feel unbearable? Or why one neighbourhood floods after heavy rain 💦 and another doesn't?

Climate resilience is our ability to cope with and adapt to changing weather, while reducing the impacts of climate change on people, places and wildlife. Locally, climate resilience can look like:
🌳 More street trees providing shade during hot summers
🌼 Wildflower verges supporting pollinators and healthy ecosystems
💧 Rain gardens and ponds helping absorb heavy rainfall
🦔 Connected habitats that allow wildlife to move and adapt

Climate resilience isn't just a policy buzzword. It's the difference between a flooded street and one that absorbs rain. Between a neighbourhood that overheats 🥵 and one cooled by trees 🌳 and green spaces.

➡️ And climate change is happening right now.

At Avon Wildlife Trust, we're restoring wetlands that help manage floodwater, creating connected habitats for wildlife, and helping landscapes adapt to a changing climate.

Our reserves are part of the picture. Small actions matter too 💥 Gardens, balconies, streets, school grounds and community spaces can all play a part in building a more climate-resilient future.

💚 Nature is one of our strongest allies in a changing climate, helping to create healthier communities, support wellbeing, strengthen connections and build resilience for people and wildlife together.
Access to nature isn't a luxury, it's our right and something we all need.

Securing nature’s recovery across our region

We have updated and refreshed our Strategy 2030 that sets out our goals for the next five years.

Nature is necessary for our health, wellbeing, community cohesion, and economy, but is facing huge challenges. However, there is much that brings hope in our strategy, as we highlight the work taking place across urban, rural, and coastal areas.

More people are mobilising for nature in their communities, we’re transforming landscapes for wildlife and people, and working with our partners to advocate for nature at the heart of decision making.

Visit our website to read our strategy and our vison of nature as the solution, a flourishing future for wildlife and people together.
