Bristol City Council is planning to install a bus gate on Cumberland Rd, permanently closing the eastbound lane to general traffic, which will:
• prevent residents from driving east towards the city & M32
• force residents to make long diversions for essential travel along already congested routes, including Coronation Road & Hotwell Rd
• increase car mileage, worsen traffic congestion and pollution
• negatively impact the local economy – small businesses will suffer, large employers are threatening to leave.
The Council has ignored the voices of local stakeholders – 81% of respondents to its consultation survey were against the plan.
Spike Island residents and many others have submitted objections to the Council, and while they are being reviewed, we want to gather support to demonstrate the level of opposition to this ill-considered plan.
