We organise educational courses and excursions for the the local community of Berwick-upon-Tweed to set up the BERWICK-upon-TWEED EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

A group of like-minded people met on the 29th April 2014 at the Berwick Voluntary Centre building in Tweed St. The group planned to offer a full programme of classes and excursions to local people on all kind of subjects ranging from local history and archaeology to geology, art and literature. After over 30 years of experience with the Workers' Educational Association we are branching out on our own. We now have the freedom to set up the kind of classes, lectures and excursions that local people want to attend and can fit into their busy lives. We are flexible and open to new ideas so if you want to keep learning and enjoy a bit of company, please get in touch. We would also love to hear from local people with experience of delivering education in any field as we are always on the lookout for new subjects to offer.

🖼️ Coming soon to the Granary Gallery: Berwick’s Own Burrell Collection – A Gift to the Town.

Opening on 31 October, this exhibition celebrates the extraordinary collection of paintings and objects gifted to Berwick by renowned art collectors Sir William and Lady Constance Burrell.

From maritime scenes and wildlife to portraits and moments of everyday life, discover remarkable works that have been part of Berwick’s story for generations.

Curated by Berwick Barracks volunteers and The Maltings, the exhibition brings local voices and perspectives to exploring and sharing this much-loved collection.

The coastal waters of Northumberland and Berwickshire are home to a remarkable and truly unique mix of wildlife not found elsewhere in the UK.

Join Amy Hopley, Assistant Partnership Officer at the Berwickshire and Northumberland Marine Nature Partnership, and Richard Willis, Senior Wildlife Ranger, Space for Shorebirds, Coastal Mitigation Service, to learn about
monitoring of the health of our Northumberland rocky shores, and protection of our seabirds.

Thank you to local artist Rachel Sutherland for leading ‘An Introduction to Drawing with Pen and Wash’. Over three weeks students learnt the art of sketching in ink, to provide detail and structure, combined with atmospheric colour washes to create depth and shadow. Well done to all who took part.

An Introduction to Drawing with Pen and Wash

A series of three classes with Rachel Sutherland on the art of sketching in ink, combined with atmospheric colour washes. Students will learn the art of sketching in ink, to provide detail and structure, combined with atmospheric colour washes which create depth and shadow.
