Following on from the last post, one of the kayakers that was rescued by the Coastguard helicopter in April, David, invited the RNLI Water Safety Team to liaise with their kayakers group. David said, ‘We had a great visit to Berwick RNLI with a group from Canny Paddlers Sea Kayak Symposium. I also did a talk and Q and A with Gordon Barton ( Aberdeen coastguard ) he took the incident call, we also had a helm for RNLI Newcastle NI both sea kayakers like myself. It was a big success great to share our experience from different points of view and positions.’ Although the RNLI is known for our lifeboats and rescues, there is also a big focus on water safety, avoiding problems, and knowing what to do if anything does happen. If you get into trouble at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Adele is the wife of one of the kayakers rescued by HM Coastguard helicopter in April 2026. Both Eyemouth lifeboats were involved in the multi agency operation and Adele decided to show her support by joining in with the RNLI Mayday Mile by running each day of May.
Adele has raised an amazing £1,203, with the Gift Aid added the total is £1,467!
Well done Adele!

RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat was at Saturday's Water Safety in the Bay event (30/05/26) at Coldingham bay, alongside other emergency and rescue groups.
Our crew put Eyemouth's inshore lifeboat through her paces, demonstrating the retrieval of a person from the water, along with St Abbs Lifeboat crew and the RNLI Lifeguards Scotland and Eyemouth Coastguard.
Families were able to learn about keeping safe by the water, and try some life saving line throwing and first aid for themselves.
It was great to be involved in this event, alongside the teams we work with in emergencies. Thank you to Coldingham Brave Bayers for inviting us!

Eyemouth's inshore lifeboat 'Sheila' was launched this evening just after 8pm 30/05/2026.
A member of the public had alerted HM Coastguard after seeing two teenagers in a small inflatable dinghy, trying to row back to the beach but struggling against the wind and tide.
Our volunteers searched north of Eyemouth harbour and found the teenagers, both were unhurt, and both wearing life-jackets and suitable clothing. The lifeboat brought them and their boat back to the station, where they were met by Eyemouth Coastguard.
If you see someone in trouble on the water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, and they will request the lifeboat if required.

A busy day for our volunteers who had an exercise this morning, a water safety demonstration at the Water Safety on the Bay event at Coldingham in the afternoon, then this call out 😊

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families, friends and colleagues at Marine Rescue NSW affected by this devastating loss.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
