Amazing news for Gunsgreen house!

EXCITING NEWS FOR GUNSGREEN HOUSE!

A Gunsgreen for Everyone – a bright future for our historic house!

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that Gunsgreen House Trust has been awarded £249,750 in Development Funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund! 🎉👏

Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will help us develop our exciting plans to secure a bright future for Gunsgreen House and put it at the heart of community life in Eyemouth.

From its secret smuggling tunnels and famous Tea Chute to Eyemouth’s fishing heritage, fishermen’s rebellions and the early days of seaside holidays, Gunsgreen House has some incredible stories to tell!

So, what does this mean for the future?

Plans for a new heritage centre celebrating Eyemouth’s fascinating history.

Opening up more of the historic house for visitors to explore.

Capturing local memories and oral histories before they are lost.

New opportunities for local people to get involved, volunteer and learn traditional heritage skills.

Making the house more accessible and reducing its carbon footprint.

This is an exciting step towards ensuring that Gunsgreen House remains a special place for our community and visitors for generations to come.

Over the next 18 months, we’ll be holding a series of community engagement events and we want YOU to be part of shaping the future of Gunsgreen House!

We were pleased to welcome the Northern Lighthouse Board vessel Pole Star, which recently visited Eyemouth Harbour to undertake maintenance works on the North Cardinal Buoy.

The buoy is a vital navigational aid, helping mariners safely identify hazards and navigate their way into and out of Eyemouth Harbour. Regular inspection and maintenance of navigational aids is essential to maintaining safety at sea for all harbour users.

Would like to also thank Andrew Jamieson from RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat for these fantastic shots!

We are grateful to the Northern Lighthouse Board for their ongoing work to support safe navigation around Scotland's coastline.

⚓ Eyemouth Harbour – Remembering Black Friday
Today, Eyemouth Harbour is flying the Fishermen’s Mission flag at half-mast in remembrance of the Eyemouth Great Fishing Disaster, known locally as Black Friday.

On 14 October 1881, a devastating storm claimed the lives of 189 fishermen along the south-east coast of Scotland, including 129 men from Eyemouth. The tragedy left a lasting mark on our town, its families and its fishing community.

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives, the families who endured such heartbreaking loss, and the generations of fishermen who have worked the waters off our coast.

Black Friday remains a significant part of Eyemouth’s history and maritime heritage. By flying the Fishermen’s Mission flag at half-mast, we pay our respects to those who never returned home and recognise the courage, sacrifice and resilience of our fishing community.

We will remember them. 🕊️⚓

Eyemouth Harbour apprentice Ryan Forsyth has successfully completed his Port Operative Apprenticeship, delivered by Port Training Services (PTS).

Well done Ryan from everyone at EHT!

We know many people are keen to see the Red Bridge back in use.

Recent engineering investigations have shown that the repairs required are more complex than first thought, and further work is needed to determine the best long-term solution.

A reminder to all harbour users that the dredger is back in Eyemouth! With Wyre Marine and their dredging vessel, Wyre Estuary. Operation will begin on or around Wednesday 16th September.

This Merchant Navy Day, 3rd September, Eyemouth Harbour Trust is proud to remember and honour the men and women of the Merchant Navy, past and present.

To mark the occasion, we have been flying the Red Ensign at Eyemouth Harbour — a proud symbol of the Merchant Navy and a tribute to those who have served our country at sea. 🚢🌊

Merchant seafarers have played a vital role in keeping our nation supplied, particularly during times of war, often facing incredible danger and hardship.

Today, we remember their courage, dedication and sacrifice, and recognise the important contribution the Merchant Navy continues to make.

We will remember them. ⚓️

Eyemouth Harbour Trust (EHT) is seeking two new Trustees to join its Board, bringing additional experience and expertise as the harbour looks ahead to a period of major opportunity and investment.

The recruitment follows last year’s publication of EHT’s £250 million, 50-year Masterplan, which has set out the potential for significant new infrastructure and commercial development in Eyemouth over the coming decades.
