Red Bridge Removal and Path Closure

From Monday 15th June 2026

Eyemouth Harbour Trust will temporarily remove the Red Bridge to undertake essential repairs and refurbishment works after routine maintenance identified a failure in the bridge’s hydraulic system. To support a resilient long-term solution, the Trust is currently scheduled to remove the bridge on Monday 15 June 2026, subject to weather and final operational arrangements.

Pedestrians are advised to follow the marked diversion routes. Full details of the path closure and maps of the diversion will be available when the closure is in place here on Scottish Borders Council website - https://www.scotborders.gov.uk/downloads/download/357/path-closures

☀️ As the weather warms up, we know many people will be heading to the beach to cool off but please stay safe around the water.

Jumping or “tombstoning” from the harbour pier may look fun, but it can be extremely dangerous. Conditions in the harbour can change quickly and hidden risks are not always visible from above.

⚠️ Shallow water and hidden objects can cause serious injury
⚠️ Strong currents and tides can pull swimmers away unexpectedly
⚠️ Cold water shock can affect breathing and movement within seconds
⚠️ Boat traffic in the harbour creates additional danger

If you choose to enter the water:
✅ Always check the depth first
✅ Enter feet first and never dive head first
✅ Never jump under the influence of alcohol or drugs
✅ Stay with friends and look out for each other
✅ Keep clear of boats and harbour traffic
✅ In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Please enjoy the sunshine responsibly and help keep everyone safe around the harbour this summer. 🌊☀️
