NYCNI (previously known as Ulster Youth Choir) is Northern Ireland's National Youth Choir, established in 1999 to provide the best of the province's young singers with the highest quality vocal and choral coaching. Each year NYCNI works with talented young singers aged 11-24 for summer residential courses and concerts.

We’ve had a brilliant start to the audition season, having already heard 450 young singers in schools right across Northern Ireland. Thank you to every school, teacher and singer who welcomed us. We’ve been blown away by the talent out there!

We’re also delighted to announce that 2027 will see the relaunch of our Girls’ Choir for ages 8–11. This brings the NYCNI family back to five choirs:
✨ Easter: Boys’ Choir and Girls’ Choir
✨ Summer: Junior Choir, Training Choir and Senior Choir

It’s an exciting step in broadening our reach and continuing our work as the leading provider of youth choral singing in Northern Ireland.

Our first open audition evening is for all choirs. Whether you’ve sung with us before or you’re brand new, we’d love to hear you!

About last night…. It was an unbelievable privilege for 50 members of our Senior Choir to be a part of a unforgettable performance of Beethoven 9 to a full Ulster Hall alongside the Ulster Orchestra Belfast Philharmonic Choir Methodist College Belfast Belfast Royal Academy The Royal Belfast Academical Institution under the inspirational leadership of Anna Handler Orchestral Conductor . The future of classical music and choral singing in Northern Ireland is bright and all of us at NYCNI are proud of the huge role we play in that. A huge thank you to our Artistic Director Andrew Nunn and Belfast Phil chorus director James Grossmith for their preparation and work on this special project.

We are delighted that 50 members of our Senior Choir are performing Beethoven’s 9 Symphony alongside the Ulster Orchestra Belfast Philharmonic Choir Methodist College Belfast Belfast Royal Academy The Royal Belfast Academical Institution under the amazing and inspirational direction of Anna Handler Orchestral Conductor. An amazing opportunity for our members and we can’t wait to perform to a sold out Waterfront Hall & Ulster Hall this evening!

NYCNI are delighted to announce course dates for 2027 and information on registration and auditions will be announced shortly.

Summer 2027:
NYCNI Training Choir (Age 14-18): Saturday 10th-Friday 16th July
NYCNI Junior Choir (Age 11-14): Saturday 17th- Thursday 22nd July
NYCNI Senior Choir (Age 17-25): Saturday 17th- Friday 23rd July

Easter 2027: (provisional dates)
NYCNI Boys Choir (Age 8-11): Tuesday 30th March- Friday 2nd April
NYCNI Girls Choir (Age 8-11): Tuesday 30th March- Friday 2nd April

NYCNI Senior Choir were delighted to give the world premiere of Praise Gaia by Catherine Dalton during their concert in July under the direction of NYCNI Artistic Director Andrew Nunn. This work is a jubilant celebration of all life on earth and the piece serves as a reminder that we hear Mother Earth and that we’re listening! NYCNI Senior Choir loved bringing this upbeat and jubilant piece to life!

✨ Senior Choir Concert 2026 ✨

A huge congratulations to our Senior Choir who produced a sensationally stunning concert last night under the direction of our wonderful Artistic Director, Andrew Nunn 🎶

We are hugely proud of every single person involved in last night's concert and hope they have woken up this morning feeling very proud of themselves for the magnificent sound they produced 🤍

And finally, thank you to everyone who has supported NYCNI this year. Thank you for giving hundreds of students an incredible opportunity of high calibre music making with some of the best in the business 🙌🏼
