PORTUGUESE MAN O’ WAR
It has been reported to us in the past number of hours that the harmful creature Portuguese Man O’ War has arrived on our shores. These have been spotted on Narin Beach. They normally live in tropical waters but given the strong South Westerlies of the last few days they have been driven from Spain and Portugal. They have no means of self propulsion and their gas filled bladder acts like a sail so they go where the wind and current takes them. Please be vigilant when walking on the shore or on beaches and stay away from these creatures while also keeping children and curious pets a safe distance away. If you happen to get stung remove any visible tentacles with tweezers or a gloved hand. Pour hot water on the affected area and keep rinsing. If you form a reaction or have difficulty breathing seek medical advice in the first instance. If you see anyone in difficulty in or hear the water please don’t hesitate to call 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

Last weekend the Club stayed up at the Donegal Boardwalk Resort & Spa between Creeslough and Carrigart for a long bank holiday weekend of boating and diving.
The Wicked Lady went into the water at Mevagh and our assistant coxswains had plenty of time to get their hours up behind the wheel, and our divers had some great dives in around Melmore and Sheephaven Bay, including a cheeky night dive at Portnablagh.
Unfortunately we had no underwater photographers in the water but thanks to Andrea for taking plenty of fantastic shots on the surface. Including snapping the quick video of the salty sea dog. There were a couple of porpoises too but unfortunately we couldn't catch them on camera.
Overall it we had great club activities, great food, great company and great craic. And Donegal remains one of the best places in the world......

Massive thanks to Sheephaven Subaqua for hosting the course and providing the knowledge, craft and time for our new assistant Cox'ns Christine, Rafał and Kyle, with emotional support from Noel. Good luck to everyone who took the course, and for our crew, it's time to get your hours up.

It was a rainy day in beautiful Downings but there was a lot of learning and live demonstrations on the open water in Sheephaven Bay. A place well worth a visit even if you aren't in the diving community, and you never know, maybe it'll inspire you to get in the water......
