Changing Pathways

Changing Pathways Changing Pathways is a charitable organisation providing support and refuge for women and their children who have been victims of domestic abuse.

Changing Pathways (formerly known as Basildon Women’s Aid) is a domestic abuse charity working across the areas of Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Epping Forest, Harlow, Rochford and Thurrock. We provide free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced domestic abuse. We offer a range of needs led services including refuge accommoda

tion, outreach/community based support, advocacy services for high risk victims, including those experiencing stalking and harassment, therapeutic/counselling services and a range of group programmes. We focus on listening to our service users and decide together the support required to take the first step on a pathway to a new life journey. We have a dedicated Children and Young People’s service which ensures access to age appropriate individual and group based therapies, practical and emotional support, opportunities to participate in a range of activities which are supported by domestic abuse experts, and we operate a pre-school for the children of women accommodated in our Basildon refuge site. Additionally, BWA support male adult victims/survivors of domestic abuse via telephone support, individual outreach support and therapeutic sessions. Domestic abuse impacts on all communities. If you are suffering from physical, sexual, psychological/emotional and/or financial abuse, or are being threatened, intimidated or stalked by a current or previous partner or close family member, you could be a victim of domestic abuse. You may be feeling frightened, isolated, ashamed and confused. If you have children, you may be concerned about how the domestic abuse is impacting upon them too. You are not to blame for what is happening. You do not have to face this situation on your own. Changing Pathways are ready to support you through your decision to reclaim your right to a safe, happy and abuse free life. We will not judge you in any way and we will ensure that we only ever move at the pace you want to go.

Thank You, Piccadilly Whips! 🍦

A huge thank you to John B***r and Danny from Piccadilly Whips for attending one of our Safe Accommodation Fun Days and providing delicious ice creams for all the children, residents and staff. 🍦❀️

The ice-cream van was a wonderful surprise for the children, and they were absolutely thrilled to see their very own ice-cream van arrive! Their excitement and smiles made the day even more special. 😊

A big thank you to John for organising everything and allowing this fantastic surprise to go ahead, and a special thank you to Danny for being so patient and friendly with the children while they chose their ice creams.

The staff were also delighted to be spoiled with an ice cream too! πŸ¦πŸ˜‹
Thank you again to the whole Piccadilly Whips team for helping to make our Fun Day such a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone. πŸ’•

Our team went to Wickford Town FC Family Fun Day- a community event to promote their new 3D football pitch.

Ellie said:

'I think it was important we went to connect with the community and speak with other charities and agencies that we could work with... We spoke to a range of different people and even spoke with the local fire brigade to arrange for the children in refuge to visit the fire station one day!'

Changing Pathways is reliant on community, and showing up and giving back is incredibly important to us.

Thank you Wickford Town FC for having us! πŸ’š

We ensure that we offer enriching activities that offer fun, socialisation, but just as importantly, healing.

The first activity with the Caterpillar-Butterfly is called 'The Eternal Light of Me'.

In this creative workshop residents explored through the metamorphism of the caterpillar turning into a chrysalis and emerging into a butterfly how the unique light that is inside them -represented by glitter has changed but remained a constant through all of their stages of growth

The second we made dreamcatchers whilst reflecting on what we would like to β€œcatch” and keep hold of to take into our futures and what we would like to pass through and let go.
