Through the Essex Pedal Power partnership with the NHS in Basildon we have supported NHS staff members by giving them a bike to get to and from work as well as ongoing support to keep them riding. Today we strengthened the partnership with Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust and Southend City Council by supporting a scheme for staff members working at Southend hospital by donating 10 recycled bikes, cleaned and fixed up by our cycle mechanic and volunteers to further support, inspire and break down barriers for active travel.

In Basildon there have been devastating fires in local parks. Here is the fruit orchard in Gloucester Park, today our Ladies Ride and Inclusive Ride did their bit by giving the trees a water to try and help keep them alive. It's not much but it's better to try than let them die. We hope this encourages the park goers to take some water with them to give them some more. Until it rains we will be doing this every week to try and give them a chance. 🌳💧

- Essex Pedal Power's Big Ride Out -

On Sunday 12th July, Basildon, Colchester, Clacton and Harwich Essex Pedal Power projects embarked on a journey through Essex activating local rides in each area. This 85 mile journey taken on by the team and volunteers took 10+ hours with stop offs in each area completing a local ride with local participants, exploring each area!

As you can imagine this is some serious undertaking for the team doing the ride across essex however meeting local cyclists in each area really lifted their spirits!

In total we had close to 50 participants on the day, The big ride team travelled 85 miles and local people averaged around 4 miles on the local rides.

In Harwich we had our oldest and youngest participants taking part in the ride. Oldest being 85 and youngest only 7. These participants have been part of the project for a long time and the team has supported their journey since the beginning, from learning to ride, receiving a bike and using it often to attend local rides and gaining more confidence cycling.

We will be posting more from this ride so make sure you're following to stay updated!
