On another hot morning 19 walkers met at the Three Golden Cups, Southerndown.
Heading across farmland they soon reached Pool Farm at St Brides Major. Then a steady climb passed St Bridget’s Church onto Ogmore Down and descending via Pant Marie Flanders Well for a refreshment break near Portobello House.
The Wales Coastal Path offered great views towards Porthcawl and across the channel.
Then a challenging climb up to West Farm and across fields back to the start.
Most of the group enjoyed tasty lunches and great service at the Three Golden Cups.

Carers Stroll, Barry Island
There were some strange greyish formations.....☁️🌥☁️ in the sky as the strollers enjoyed a walk around Whitmore Bay.... even a cooling welcome breeze...🌬

Valeways Cosmeston Strollers Wed 27th May 2026
It was another very hot day today but at least we had some breeze to keep the 18 of us cool... but lots of chats on our stroll around Cosmeston Country Park and in the Cafe afterwards. Thank you Paul Hawkins for back marking for me .

Recently Valeways received a grant from the Vale of Glamorgan Mayor’s Fund.
It was used to purchase 4 more strimmers for our Walk and Clear volunteers.
As the growing season is in full swing there are plenty of footpaths that will require clearing and the new strimmers will help with this.
Yesterday one of our groups were using them in Llampha near Colwinston.
Many thanks to the Mayor for helping Valeways maintain the footpaths.

On a very hot morning 15 walk and clear volunteers were on duty across 3 sites.
6 were in Wenvoe clearing overgrown paths near the Garden Centre and Golf Course as well as sawing up 2 fallen trees. This work was in advance of 2 walks in the area on Sunday.
6 others were in St Georges Super Ely. They were clearing a long green lane towards Peterston Super Ely and updating waymarking.
The final 3 were strimming and clearing the green lane near Llampha Court.
Great work in challenging conditions. Well done to everyone.

On a very hot afternoon over 20 walkers met at Rhoose station. The planned walk to Penmark was changed to a shorter route along the coastal paths towards Barry.

Valeways has been asked if we can create a 12 by 12 inch fabric square to help Barry Male Voice Choir celebrate its 125th anniversary. Their aim is to create a community wallhanging/quilt representing activities in the Vale and they have asked us to be represented.

It will be near the footpaths running alongside the River Ely.
