St Athan Coffee Strollers today:
Autumnal sunshine for the 14 strollers in St Athan this morning.
A walk to the helicopter base followed by coffee in the 3 Horseshoes, thanks to the new Landlord and Landlady for their friendly welcome. The pub is hosting Paul's Strollers' Christmas lunch on Dec 17 - see the menu in the walk photos, and let Paul know if you are interested in coming.

Barry Knap Coffee Strollers walk:
31 walkers braved the rain to walk along Parade Gardens to the Old Harbour, then back to the Watchtower, and along the seafront at the Knap before coffee at Romilly's 1 & 2.

On a cloudy morning 15 walkers met at Parc Slip Nature Reserve for Sheila’s first walk after injury.
It was great to welcome a number of new walkers.
Initially we walked to the Mining Memorial Garden that remembers the 112 men and boys plus 16 horses that were killed in a pit explosion on 26 August 1892.
Then a long climb along lanes and fields up to the Glamorgan Ridgeway with great views.
A lunch stop was enjoyed at Bryngarw Country Park before road walking and a final woodland path led back to Parc Slip.
Many thanks to Sheila for leading and sharing history along the way and to Karrie’s Cafe for refreshments afterwards.

On a drizzly morning 18 walk and clear volunteers were working in the City area north of Aberthin.
Overgrown kissing gates were cleared, numerous fallen trees in Graig Wood were lifted off the path or sawn up and a long, badly overgrown path on the north of the woods was cleared.
The paths cleared today will be used on walks on Sunday 18th and Thursday 29th October.
Many thanks to everyone for their work today and to the Farmers Arms, Aberthin for the use of their car park.

John Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley" was chosen for this month's Walking Books. Published in 1962, the author takes to the road in a camper van with his poodle Charley, giving a descriptive account of his journey across America.
The book was discussed as 13 of us walked through Porthkerry Park and it scored 3.5 out of 5.
The morning was damp but warm and we walked through the woods where the tree sculpture was much admired.
David Swallow again provided entertainment as we stopped for coffee, reciting his monologue "My Little Dog Norman" which was well received. Thank you David.
The next walk will be on Monday 2nd November meeting at Cosmeston Lakes Visitor Centre at 10:30 am.
The book will be "The Lighthouse" by PD James, a detective novel.

About 20 walkers set out from Cowbridge Town Hall on Sunday afternoon. They completed a 3 mile countryside walk taking in the unique flood alleviation scheme designed to tame the River Thaw.
