The Vale Youth Forum (VYF) is a registered charity and works with young people aged 11-25 who either live, work or go to school / college in the Vale of Glamorgan. The VYF is made up of a bunch of really friendly young
people who care about their communities and who want to make things better in their area. If you or your friends have something to say about anything in your area we can find out whose job it is to do something about it! We can also tell you about the plans and services that are happening in your area and help you give your opinions about them
We really hope you want to come along to meetings and see if you want to join the VYF. It doesn’t cost anything, there are always lots of free snacks and drinks and you never know you may like it! If you want to be a member, the meetings and activities you do for the VYF are counted as volunteering as we are not a youth club – we are a way for you to find out what’s happening, have your say about it and represent other young people in your community. This means you can use this volunteering towards your Welsh Baccalaureate or Duke of Edinburgh volunteering sections. We meet twice a month in the Civic Offices in Barry, normally on a Monday & Thursday from 6-8pm. The meeting are run by young people who decide which issues they want to work on and what service providers to invite. If you joined you would be representing the views of your friends / youth club / organisation / school and all you have to do is tell us about any issues facing young people where you live and tell you friends what the VYF is doing about their issues. In addition to the monthly meeting the young people have opportunities to take part in training, consultations, outreach meetings / events and volunteering opportunities. It brings young people from all different backgrounds together to work on shared issues. It can help you get more confident, practice skills like problem solving, decision-making, negotiation, listening, and communication skills and of course you will make new friends!
