Community Organisation Mack Events Team
COMET is a not for profit community interest company which was established in December 2022 as the community arm of Mack Events Presents Limited. Our main goal is to generate goodwill and community spirit in and around Barry. The idea of forming COMET grew out of the longstanding work of Mack Events Presents in staging the popular GlastonBARRY music festiv
als from 2013 to the current day. We have a strong desire to help improve our community and it was felt that a musical legacy could be left in the local area through the staging of community events. Our objectives include:
Staging local community events to:
- Increase local trade in retail, services and hospitality.
- Promote tourism in the area.
- Provide scholarships and bursaries for music students wishing to continue their musical education at a higher
level.
- Provide instruments and tuition for local young musicians from underprivileged backgrounds.
- Leave a diverse musical legacy to encourage young musicians of all genres in the local area. promote Welsh culture through popular music.
- Ensure young musicians from all walks of life can work together and thrive.
- Promote the role studying music and learning to play a musical instrument can play in aiding the maintaining of good mental health and wellbeing.
- To help nurture the musical skills which may lead to employment prospects in the future.
- To encourage awareness of sustainability and global awareness. These to be achieved in partnership with The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Glamorgan Music School.
