A Big… Big Thank You…👍 to all who attended tonight’s “Introduction to Trauma Kits” session. The kits and presentation were provided as a part of the Rotary Club of Barry & District’s STOP THE BLEED PROJECT.
Thomas Jones of Rescue (Ed) presented a stimulating and insightful overview of the Trauma Kit, its contents, and its applications. The session, which was well attended by representatives of several organisations, provided an interactive presentation along with practical hands-on experience. At the end of the evening the attendees each received a Trauma Kit for their respective organisations.

In recent years, communities across the United Kingdom have become increasingly aware of the importance of immediate first-aid intervention in the event of catastrophic bleeding. Whether caused by accidents, sports injuries, or rare but serious incidents involving violence, the ability to act within the first few minutes can be the difference between life and death. This reality has led to a national movement advocating for the wider availability of bleed control (Trauma) kits-specialist emergency packs designed to help bystanders manage severe bleeding until professional medical help arrives.

STOP THE BLEED is a Rotary Club of Barry & District project that has received funding from the TESCO Stronger Starts Initiative and the Rhoose Defibrillator project.
The Project aims to supply Trauma (Bleed) Kits to schools, libraries, community centres, and other community groups and organisations within the Barry and district area.

STOP THE BLEED Project – Rotary Club of Barry & District

The Rotary Club of Barry & District, in partnership with Tesco Community Funding and supported by a generous donation from the Rhoose Defibrillator project, has launched a Community Bleed Kit Initiative designed to give local schools, Community Centres, and Libraries a fighting chance when faced with a major traumatic injury.

The project has been developed around a simple principle: having the right equipment available, and knowing how to use it, can make a critical difference while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

The initiative offers selected schools and community groups a one-time opportunity to receive a specialist bleed kit completely free of charge, alongside a bespoke awareness session covering the purpose of the kit, its contents and how it can be used safely within the boundaries of basic first aid skills.
The initiative does not replace formal first aid or trauma training. Instead, it aims to complement existing first aid provision by giving organisations access to appropriate equipment and, importantly, the confidence to recognise a life-threatening bleed and take appropriate action within their existing level of competence.

By providing the equipment and practical awareness, the project aims to give members of our community the opportunity to act safely, confidently and appropriately during the vital minutes before professional help arrives.

Kits are available for the following areas: Barry, Penarth, Sully, and Rhoose.
