A place to reconnect with nature, yourself, and others, and to build something meaningful together, from the ground up. The Growforward Project is a grassroots, not-for-profit initiative dedicated to creating a tranquil hub for wellbeing, social connection, and conservation at the historic Chelfham Mill, located near Barnstaple, Devon. Our vision is to transform the 20+ acre site—situated beneath the iconic Chelfham Viaduct and home to a dilapidated watermill and millstream—into a peaceful, wellbeing-focused community space and retreat learning centre. Nestled by the river in a stunning UNESCO Biosphere valley, the site is surrounded by ancient woodland, temperate rainforest, and a unique biodiversity found nowhere else on earth. The Growforward Project seeks to be a grounded, grassroots collaborative hub for values-driven wellness, social connection, and conservation organisations, community groups, and practitioners. In a world in desperate need of authentic and ethical wellbeing opportunities, we recognise that alone, our impact is limited—but together, the possibilities are endless. The Growforward Project is also a member of The Chelfham Valley Community, an informal group of local residents, not-for-profit land stewards, and supporters working collectively to restore the valley’s wellbeing, conservation, and heritage for the benefit of the entire North Devon community. We welcome interest from individuals, professionals, and organisations, and look forward to shaping a bright future for Chelfham Valley alongside all of you.

🎬 “An urgent film for our desperate times.” John Bird, founder of The Big Issue ✨

Simon Callow stars as William Beveridge in The Man With The Plan, and it’s coming to GrowForward on Saturday 7th November. A young student, Flea, discovers the 1942 Beveridge Report and finds herself on a fantastical journey through the “five giants” of Want, Disease, Squalor, Idleness and Ignorance. Along the way she meets dancing magpies, media sheep and Alice in Wonderland’s Dodo. It’s surreal, funny, hopeful and very timely. 🤍

The Guardian has run a feature on the film, framing it as a celebration of Beveridge, the radical co-founder of Britain’s welfare state. The Camden New Journal’s verdict was simple: “You should see it too.” 👏

After the screening, producer and editor Olivier Stockman will talk about the making of the film and take your questions. 🎥

🍂 Sundown Songs is back on Friday! 🎶

A huge thank you to Autumn Joy, whose voice stunned the whole room to silence in the best possible way. You could have heard a pin drop all night. What a gift, and what a community, to welcome her so warmly at such short notice. 🤍

This Friday we welcome the legendary Dogleg back to the Snug! Fiddle and guitar come together in a set of mostly their own homegrown songs, and it’s going to be a joy. We’ll be tucked up inside for a cosy evening of live music, so come and be part of it. 🎻🎸

Autumn is part of the New Young Folk Collective in Bude, and she has a beautiful, unique voice that we can't wait to hear in the Snug. She's jumped in at the very last minute to save the day, so let's give her the warmest Sundown Songs welcome and fill the room with love and support! 🤍

If you're a singer-songwriter, a duo, or a musician with a set (with at least a few originals!) up your sleeve and you're free this Friday, we'd love to hear from you. It's a warm, welcoming crowd, and we'll be tucked up inside for the cosy Snug Sessions. 🤍

We know so many of you expressed interest when we ran our poll, and we'd love to see you there in person.

Jess is a wonderful instructor, and this is a class that deserves to happen, but we do need at least 6 people to sign up before Thursday for the taster session to go ahead.

Come and give it a try - no commitment, just an hour for you!
