We provide aviation experience, adventurous activities and personal development opportunities to young people in the North Devon area.

We provide training and experience to male and female cadets aged between 12 and 20 in the North Devon area in a variety of activities, all with a military and/or civilian theme. All of our activities are voluntary, and there is no requirement to go into the Armed Forces if you join, (although many do). If you are looking to join the Forces, being an air cadet can give you an advantage over other candidates). Membership costs just £8.25 per month (£99 per year) and covers the majority of the activities we provide. Activities, for which we pay, are considerably cheaper in comparison to the independent rate. For example, a week long camp with travel, accommodation, catering and activities normally costs around £70. This includes a wide number of opportunities you cannot get elsewhere.

Sunday 18th October was the International Greenpower Finals at Goodwood motor circuit. Once again both cars qualified in the top 84 cars in the Country!
A very long day with a 4am depart and due to 2 major road closures with detours it was a 10.20pm return.
Weather stayed dry most of the day with a small shower just after 3pm but it was a bit chilly with temps of around 10 degrees.
The 7 team members did really well and have improved placings from last year, only the top 84 cars are invited.
Car 1 (Black and Yellow) qualified 64th for the race and finished 51st overall (60th in 2025) and 20th in the Kit car Class.
Car 2 (Orange) qualified 60th and finished 60th overall (71st in 2025) and 28th in the Kit Car Class.
We have made quite a few aerodynamic upgrades to the cars this year which have helped a lot. More changes are planned over the Winter period to hopefully increase our milage for next Season.
A Massive thank you to the Rotary Club of Braunton who paid the £300 for the Finals race fee's. Also thank you to all that donated to our Go Fund me page so we were able to attend the event.

Thursday 20th August, we planned a STEM evening for the Cadets with 3 tasks.
First was to build the highest and most stable tower using just spaghetti and marshmallows. 2 of our newest Cadets performed very well and built the 2 tallest towers.
Second the Cadets were given an egg and some bubble wrap, the task was to see who could protect their egg the best after being fired from a catapult. Furthest still intact wins! Only 2 eggs broke and furthest distance was 25 meters.
Lastly they were given 2 sheets of thin card to construct the best paper aeroplane they could. Access to the internet was allowed to get designs.

Monday 27th July, three of our Cadets experienced Day two of our annual Adventure Training Camp at the Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre, Windermere was packed with excitement, as Sgt Fry, Cpl Buckley, and Cdt Buckley, took on two fantastic adventure training activities.

The morning saw the cadets head to Coniston Water for a kayaking session. Working together on the water, they developed paddling techniques, and enjoyed exploring a part of one of the most iconic lakes in the Lake District. It was a great opportunity to take in the stunning scenery.

In the afternoon, it was time to face the heights with an exhilarating abseiling session. Under the guidance of qualified instructors, the cadets challenged themselves by descending a rock face, demonstrating courage, trust and determination. For many, it was an opportunity to push beyond their comfort zone and achieve something they have never done before.

Adventure training is all about developing resilience, confidence and leadership, and today’a activities certainly put those qualities to the test. Another brilliant day of learning new skills.

Adventure Training Camp - Day Three

On Tuesday the 28th July we had Day three of our Annual Adventure Training Camp, which saw Sgt Fry, Cpl Buckley, and Cdt Buckley head to Preston for a day of climbing and bouldering.

Throughout the day, the cadets challenged themselves on a variety of climbing routes, developing their technique, balancing, and developing their problem solving skills. From carefully planning each move to encourage one another from the ground, the activities highlighted the importance of teamwork, communication and perseverance.

The bouldering session provided a different kind of challenge, with shorter climbs that required careful thought, agility and determination to navigate each route.

With another successful day completed, the team are looking forward to the adventures day four will bring!

A little hint for day four, may include another iconic mountain!

Adventure Training Camp - Day One

On Sunday the 26th of July, marked the start of our annual Adventure Training Camp at the Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre, Windermere, with Sgt Fry, Cpl Buckley, and Cdt Buckley taking on the first challenge of the week ahead.

The team tackled the iconic Old Man of Coniston, one of the Lake District’s most popular fells, standing proudly at 803 metres (2,635 feet) above sea level. The climb rewarded the cadets with the experience of mountain climbing, while also providing a fantastic test of teamwork, resilience, and determination.

Along the route, the cadets learnt about the Mountain’s fascinating industrial heritage. The Old Man of Coniston has been shaped by centuries of copper mining and slate quarrying, with mining activities dating back hundreds of years. The remains of the old quarries, mine workings, and spoil heaps are still visible today, offering a glimpse into the area’s rich history.

The weather certainly made its presence known, with strong winds adding an extra challenge to the ascent. In fact, the gusts were so powerful that Sgt Fry found himself taking an unexpected seat on the mountainside! Thankfully, there were no injuries, just plenty of laughs and a memory to remember.

A fantastic first day of camp, with everyone showing excellent determination and teamwork. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store!

From 3rd–5th July, four of our cadets attended a fantastic training weekend at Chickerell Camp, Dorset, taking part in a variety of RAF Air Cadet courses and qualifications.

Congratulations to:

🎯 Cdt Buckley and Cpl Buckley – Successfully achieved Blue Shot through the Initial Weapons Training (IWT) and Weapons Handling Test (WHT). These qualifications introduce cadets to the safe handling, operation and marksmanship principles of the RAF Air Cadets' target ri**es.

🩹 Cdt Daniels – Successfully completed the Youth First Aid (YFA, Bronze First Aid), learning essential lifesaving skills including casualty assessment, CPR, recovery position and how to respond confidently in emergency situations.

🥾 Sgt Fry – Successfully completed Blue Road Marching, developing endurance and teamwork while learning the fundamentals of road marching in a safe and controlled environment.

A huge congratulations to all four cadets for their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm throughout the weekend. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to seeing them build on these qualifications in the future.

Last week, on Thursday the 2nd of July, our Cadets put their navigation skills to the test during an Adventure Training evening focused on map reading and route finding on the Airfield area at RMB Chivenor.
Using maps and grid references, Cadets worked their way around a series of checkpoints, locating each post in the correct position and stamping their record sheets as they progressed. The activity challenged them to apply their map-reading knowledge, develop teamwork, and build confidence in navigating unfamiliar terrain.
A great evening of learning, problem-solving, and outdoor adventure, with all cadets showing excellent enthusiasm and determination throughout.
Well done to everyone who took part! 👏

We are delighted to congratulate Sgt McGarry on successfully completing and passing the RAF Air Cadets Combined Initial Course (CIC).

The course is a significant milestone in the development of uniformed staff, providing valuable training in leadership, instruction, safeguarding, and the responsibilities expected of Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers.

Sgt McGarry's hard work, dedication, and commitment to supporting our cadets have been evident throughout his probationary period, and we are proud to see him achieve this important qualification.

Well done, Sergeant McGarry, on this fantastic accomplishment. We look forward to seeing the positive impact your skills and experience will continue to have on our squadron and cadets.

On Monday the 8th June, our cadets spent the evening out on the airfield developing valuable fieldcraft skills.

Throughout the session, cadets learned and practiced a range of hand signals used for communication in the field. They also gained hands-on experience constructing bashas, exploring different methods of setting them up, as well as learning useful techniques to make them more effective and secure.

The evening provided a great opportunity for cadets to build their teamwork, communication and practical outdoor skills while learning what to look out for when operating in the field.

Well done to all the cadets who took part and got stuck into the activities
