😔🩵🐴 A really worrying time last night 😔🐴🩵
Last night, me and my mum decided to go right down to the bottom of the fields to give Erin, Alfie, Noah and Sydney some extra hay for the night. ❤️
They still had some left, but with the temperatures being soooo cold, we wanted to make sure they had plenty to keep them going through the night. 🥶❤️
WE ARE SOOOOO GLAD WE DID! 😔💔
As soon as we got down there, we were greeted by a VERY distressed Alfie! 😢💔
Our poor boy was absolutely soaking wet with sweat, completely worked up and all on his own! 💔
His friends Erin, Noah and Sydney were ALL in the next field, and poor Alfie couldn't get through to be with them! 😔🩵
Earlier that morning, my sister Mary and one of our amazing volunteers, Simon, had spent time fixing gaps and fencing to make sure everyone was safe and wouldnt be able to escape again .
We have absolutely NO IDEA how the others managed to get into the next field! 😔
The only possible gap we could find was soooo small that we couldn't understand how a horse the size of Erin could possibly have squeezed through it! 😳
Unless they had somehow jumped the fencing, or someone had let them through, we honestly have no idea! 😔
But whatever had happened, poor Alfie had been left behind, unable to get to his friends. 💔
And then things became even MORE worrying… 😔
While me and my mum were checking the fencing, Alfie kept dropping to the floor and rolling! 😢
Was he showing signs of colic? Was he rolling because he was absolutely soaked in sweat and uncomfortable? We just didn't know at that point! 💔
He kept following us around, clearly wanting to be with his friends, and it was absolutely heartbreaking seeing him so distressed. 😔🩵
We tried to get Erin back into the correct field, but she was having NONE of it! 🙈
In the end, the only option we had was to leave the gate open so Alfie could get back to his friends and hope they would all be safe together through the night. ❤️
Once Alfie was reunited with his friends, he didn't go down rolling again! And was so happy 🥹🩵
Seeing him settle once he was back with them was such a HUGE relief! 🩵🐴
WHAT IF WE HADN'T DECIDED TO TAKE THEM THAT EXTRA HAY? 😔💔
They already had hay, so we didn't actually NEED to go down there last night.
But something made us decide to give them a little more to make sure they were comfortable through the cold night.
And thank goodness we did! 🥹❤️
We have absolutely no idea how long poor Alfie had been separated from his friends or how long he had been in such a distressed state.
I dread to think what we might have found this morning if we hadn't gone down there. 😢💔
Our animals mean absolutely EVERYTHING to us, and nights like this really do show how quickly things can go wrong, even when you do everything you possibly can to keep them safe. ❤️
Our poor Alfie… I wish you could tell us exactly what happened last night! 🥹🐴❤️
Sometimes that one extra little job you decide to do can make ALL the difference. ❤️🐴
