(314)

Barnsley Hospice is a charity (reg number 700586) providing specialist palliative and end of life care for people living with a life-limiting illness and those close to them. Our main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients with a life limiting diseases, whilst supporting their families, during periods of illness and at the end of life. As a specialist care provider,

the range of skills we offer include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and bereavement support. We are a charity - our care is free for patients but not free to provide. We are funded through an NHS grant, plus the generous donations and fundraising efforts of our community and supporters. Please note, we care for patients at home, in the community and at the hospice. We care for patients with all life-limiting illnesses - not just cancer. And, we support patients' families and those close to them too.

On Saturday, you may have spotted herds of hikers dressed in orange making their way around Barnsley as part of our Hospice Hike. We were fortunate enough to have over 100 people taking part along the 8, 12 or 20-mile routes. 📍

While we were hoping for a little more sun, the energy and determination from supporters still brightened up the day! ☀️

We'll be sharing more pictures and the total raised from the day soon, but for now, we wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make a difference to local hospice care! 🧡

🌻 Did you know each of our inpatient rooms at the hospice each has access to our garden area? What's extra special is that our gardens are lovingly maintained by a team of dedicated - and award-winning(!) - volunteers.

Just like the hospice itself which was built on the generosity of volunteers, our gardens are only as welcoming and beautiful as they are because of the time given up by our fantastic team.

Amy, our Head of Estates and Facilities, says: “It wouldn’t be possible to maintain our gardens to such a high level without this wonderful team of volunteers. Their dedication, hard work and commitment to maintaining our beautiful outdoor spaces allow for our patients, their families and staff beautiful areas to enjoy moments of peace and reflection. I'd like to thank each and every one of our fantastic gardening team who are a credit to the hospice."

Let's hear it for our wonderful team who give up their time regularly so that our outdoor spaces can be enjoyed by all. 🧡

Fundraisers like Amy make such a difference. Every mile, every donation and every challenge helps us continue providing specialist palliative and end of life care to local people and families when they need it most.

A key part of our gardening team, Nelly plays a vital role in not only helping when digging to plant seeds across our gardens, but she brightens the days of all our staff, patients and fellow volunteers!

Jessie Coles has reached an incredible milestone in her fundraising journey as she completes her 25th parkrun - officially reaching the halfway point of her challenge to complete 50 parkruns for Barnsley Hospice! 🏃‍♀️🧡

What makes Jessie’s achievement even more inspiring is that before starting this challenge, she wasn't a runner at all. Yet she made the decision to step outside her comfort zone and dedicate every Saturday morning throughout 2026 to supporting local hospice care.

As one of our younger supporters, Jessie is proving that age is no barrier when it comes to making a difference. We're so grateful for everything she is doing to support Barnsley Hospice. 🧡

Good luck for the second half of your challenge, Jessie - are all cheering you on! 🎉
