We asked some of the carers we support to summarise their overall experience with Beacon South Yorkshire and whether they would recommend us to other carers...

Their responses highlight what makes Beacon so special, a welcoming place where carers can feel understood, connect with others who share similar experiences, access lifeline support and know that they’re not alone.

For some, Beacon is a safe space to talk openly. For others, it’s the friendships, activities, counselling or simply having somewhere to go where people genuinely care.

Their words are a powerful reminder of why this support matters and why we want to continue being there for unpaid carers across South Yorkshire.

We’re currently raising vital funds through our Crowdfunder to help us continue providing support, wellbeing activities and opportunities for carers to connect with others.

We want every carer who needs us to have somewhere to turn, but we can’t do it without your help.

These heartfelt words show what Beacon South Yorkshire means to the people who come through our doors. From finding a safe space and connecting with others, to accessing counselling, improving wellbeing and having someone to turn to when life feels overwhelming, our support makes a real difference to carers’ lives.

Receiving messages like this from the carers we support reminds us why Beacon South Yorkshire matters so much.💜

Behind every thank you note/card is a person who has needed someone to listen, a safe space to turn to, or a little extra support during a difficult time.

We’re incredibly grateful to the carers who take the time to share their experiences with us. Knowing that our support has made a difference to someone’s life means more than words can say.

There are still many unpaid carers across South Yorkshire who need support, reassurance and somewhere they can feel understood.

We want to continue being there for them, that's why we're raising funds through our Crowdfunder campaign, as our service has become increasingly difficult to fund and we don't want carers to face their journey alone.

Every donation to Beacon South Yorkshire, no matter how big or small, helps us continue supporting unpaid carers across South Yorkshire. Your generosity helps provide practical support, wellbeing activities, food, volunteering and opportunities for carers to connect with others.💜

Here’s what your donation could help us provide...
£5 – Can buy us tea and coffee for our group sessions
£10 - Helps us to pay the expenses of a volunteer for a day, during which time they can support up to 3 carers.
£15 – Helps us to continue offering up to 20 holistic therapy sessions to carers every month.
£20 - Helps us to distribute up to 25 FareShare food packages every other week to our carers.
£50 - Supports peer support activities for carers.
£100 - Supports free wellbeing session for carers.
£250 - Supports one-to-one help for carers who need extra support.

Help ensure no unpaid carer has to face their caring journey alone by keeping Beacon's support groups free and available.

We have received a Crisis and Resilience fund, funded by the UK government through Barnsley Council, to be able to introduce financial resilience sessions for carers at BeaconSY 😊

These sessions will help support unpaid carers to build financial confidence, resilience and brighter futures.

📆 These sessions will take place on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 11am - 1pm.

🟣 Our first session will take place on Tuesday 27th October - this will be an introduction and information gathering session.

🟣 Our next session will be on Tuesday 24th November - where we will have a visit from the Green Doctor who will talk about energy bills and making your home more energy efficient (see poster below for further information).

There will be no session taking place in December, and future dates will be confirmed at a later date.

Just a reminder, we have our next choir session taking place tomorrow 🎵🎤

Our choir sessions are about fun, you don't need to be a good singer, it's all about having a laugh, meeting people and enjoying yourself.

Come and join us at 11 am, for a brew and to sing our hearts out!🎤💜
