Beacon South Yorkshire - Caring for Carers

Beacon South Yorkshire - Caring for Carers Beacon South Yorkshire is a voluntary organisation that is run by a team of staff & volunteers. The service was founded in 2000.

Beacon South Yorkshire (BSY) is a service that has been running for the past 23 years. Since then much has changed within the charity, however our mission statement, aims, objectives and passion for the cause remain unchanged. It was with much sacrifice and hard work that today we are a proud Limited Company and Registered Charity working hard to help carers and improve our local community. The se

rvice will support any carer or family member emotionally, who are living with drug or alcohol addiction, mental health, disabilities, dementia or the elderly. We use an holistic approach while ensuring confidentiality throughout. Due to first hand knowledge from our volunteers and staff we understand the affects that a caring role can have on individuals, sometimes making the role unbearable. This is why Beacon South Yorkshire are here, we are here to support YOU, the carer/family member while you are fulfilling your role. We also understand that when there is a drug or alcohol problem within the family, help is sought for the user and often the needs of the family, who are desperately trying to understand what is happening and why, are forgotten while they are trying to support their loved ones.

We know it can be hard as a carer to make time for yourself. However, it is important that you dedicate some time for yourself and prioritise your wellbeing and mental health by doing things you enjoy. This can also help you to recharge and prevent burnout.

As it's Carers Week, we want to encourage you to try to set aside at least 30 minutes (but more if you can!) just for yourself every day this week and see if you can build this to become a habit/a part of your routine.
