Pen*stone Scouts

Pen*stone Scouts Pen*stone Scouts provide fun and safe adventurous activities for young people aged 4 to 14 Scouting is about personal development through providing opportunity.

Skateboarding, climbing, kayaking, camping, sailing, orienteering, cycling, hiking, grass sledging, potholing... Scouting is all these things, and more. It encourages young people of all backgrounds, male and female, to have self-belief and a voice; to develop physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. We call this ...e...veryday adventure. They just call it fun. We believe that young p

eople develop most when they are 'learning by doing', when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Why do we believe that? Well, because they told us. Scouting is a youth movement, meaning its the young people that drive it forward. To provide everyday adventure to young people we need adult volunteers. These adults not only benefit from supporting young people, they also gain from developing themselves and learning new skills. All of which they apply to their everyday working lives. There are lots of flexible volunteering opportunities to suit you and your needs, whatever the amount of time you have to give.

Millstone beavers worked towards their navigator badge tonight, using their map reading skills to navigate the roads and fields from the scout hut to Cubley Hall. It was a lovely evening, made better with the reward of chips and Juice when we arrived! Well done beavers and a big thank you to Cubley Hall for having us!

Our dog was called Cosmo. One of our leaders, Sharon, will be in touch with the winner shortly. Congratulations 🐢

Let us know if any of the Pen*stone volunteers deserve a bit shout out too!

As 2026 draws to a close, we want to hear from you!

Has a Barnsley Scouts volunteer made a difference to your child’s life? Have you got a memory β€” a camp, an activity β€” that stayed with you? Is there a leader you’ve always wanted to say thank you to?

Drop their name in the comments, share your story, or tag someone who deserves a shout-out. πŸ’›

Today, Enigma & Apex Scouts went climbing at Stanage Edge. All did brilliantly & managed several climbs & abseils. The morning group endured difficult weather (the 'bothy' that looks like an orange blob had 5 scouts inside trying to keep warm in between climbs!). The afternoon group summoned the sun (we think Stuart did that given he looks so smug!). Many thanks go to Derbyshire Scouts who facilitated expertly.

Last night our Beavers took on new challenges at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre, showing brilliant teamwork, resilience and determination throughout the obstacle course and the twists and turns of The Cube. From climbing over obstacles to navigating the dark maze, they pushed themselves outside their comfort zones and showed exactly what being a Beaver is all about! πŸ’ͺ🦫

Tonight Enigma Scouts were working towards their athletics badge. Everyone tried their very best & supported each other well. Here are some slightly blurred photos of scouts running fast at the long jump! πŸ˜‚

A Night at the Museum! πŸš’
Last weekend our brilliant Beavers enjoyed an unforgettable sleepover at the National Emergency Services Museum. They explored fire engines and police gear, learnt how real heroes keep us safe, then settled down (eventually πŸ˜„) for a cosy night.
