In this post I explore how much or how little today's generation is interested in certain things that might be seen as a bit old-fashioned to some, from physical media to the classic joy of Laurel and Hardy movies.

🎬 WHAT EXACTLY IS PENISTONE FILM FESTIVAL?

It’s not just a film screening.

It’s a three-day celebration of cinema, creativity, live music, filmmakers and storytelling across two of Pen*stone’s most historic venues.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎬 FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER
OPENING NIGHT
PENISTONE PARAMOUNT

NANDOR FODOR AND THE TALKING MONGOOSE

Set in 1935, filmed in Yorkshire, and starring Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver and Christopher Lloyd, this wonderfully strange mystery follows paranormal psychologist Dr Nandor Fodor as he investigates a family’s claim of a talking animal.

But this isn’t just a film screening.

This is your chance to hear from Hollywood director Adam Sigal, who directed the film and is also our Best Picture judge for Pen*stone Film Festival 2026.

The evening also includes an insight into film score music from composer Bill Prokopow.

A perfect opening night for film lovers, creatives, curious locals and anyone who enjoys something a little bit odd.

Silent cinema created the foundations of stunt performance and visual action storytelling.

Long before CGI, dialogue heavy scripts and modern effects, performers like Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd risked everything to create cinematic action through movement, timing and pure physical skill.

Today, the British Stunt Register continues that legacy at the very highest professional standard, whilst ensuring the safety, training and safeguarding of performers working within the industry.

That’s why we’re incredibly proud that the BSR committee are officially judging the Art in Action category at Pen*stone Film Festival 2026.

We want visually driven action filmmaking with little or minimal dialogue. Action storytelling inspired by the origins of cinema, but created for modern audiences.

Whether you already work professionally as a BSR stunt performer, are training towards the register, or simply have a passion for cinematic action and physical storytelling, this is your chance to put your creativity on screen and have your work seen by some of the most respected professionals in the industry.

Selected films will screen at the historic 1914 Pen*stone Paramount Cinema.

Winning films chosen by the BSR committee.

Just don’t copy Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd TOO closely and injure yourself. Modern stunt work is about skill, choreography, planning, camera angles and clever filmmaking just as much as the action itself.

SUBMIT NOW.
