๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ’œ Memory Lane Monday โ€“ Banbury Railway Station ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿš‚

This week, weโ€™re taking a trip down memory lane to Banbury Railway Station โ€” a place that has connected Banbury with the rest of the country for generations!

๐Ÿš‰ Did you know? Banbury Railway Station first opened on 2nd September 1850, originally operated by the Great Western Railway (GWR).

Over the years, the station has seen plenty of changes:

๐Ÿ“… 1850 โ€“ The station opened as a single-line station before being expanded to cope with growing passenger numbers.

๐Ÿš‚ Banbury Merton Street โ€“ For many years, Banbury had another nearby railway station! The two stations stood close to one another, although plans to combine them were eventually abandoned.

๐Ÿท๏ธ 1938 โ€“ The main station became known as Banbury General, helping to distinguish it from Merton Street.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ 1950s โ€“ The original wooden station buildings were replaced, with the rebuilt station completed by 1957.

๐Ÿš‰ 1961 โ€“ Banbury Merton Street closed to passengers, leaving the main station as Banburyโ€™s principal railway station.

Today, Banbury Railway Station continues to connect our town with destinations across the country. ๐ŸŒ

Weโ€™d love to hear from our residents:

๐Ÿ’ญ Do you remember travelling by train from Banbury?
๐ŸŽซ Do you remember buying paper tickets?
๐Ÿš‚ Where did you travel to?
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Did you take the train for holidays or day trips?
๐Ÿซ Did you ever use the train to get to work or school?

All aboard for a journey through Banburyโ€™s railway history! ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ’œ

โšฝ๐Ÿ’œ Memory Lane Monday โ€“ Banbury United ๐Ÿ’œโšฝ

This week, weโ€™re taking a trip down memory lane and celebrating a piece of Banbury history โ€” Banbury United Football Club! โšฝ

Did you know the club began in 1931 as a works team connected to Spencer Corsets, before becoming Banbury Spencer and eventually changing its name to Banbury United in 1965?

Our residents might remember visiting the ground, watching the matches, following their favourite players, cheering from the terraces or simply hearing all about the latest football results! ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

Weโ€™ll be chatting about:

โšฝ Favourite football memories
๐Ÿ‘• Old football kits and team colours
๐ŸŸ๏ธ Memories of the Spencer Stadium
๐Ÿ‘ Players and matches residents remember
๐Ÿ“– How Banbury United has changed over the years

And, of courseโ€ฆ who remembers being a Puritan? ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’œ

A lovely opportunity to share stories, reminisce and see just how many football fans we have here at The Ridings!

A day filled with laughter, creativity and connection at Topphome Court ๐Ÿ’œ

Residents enjoyed a special Wellness Day with therapy dogs, creative activities, gentle exercise, seated football and plenty of opportunities to chat and spend time together.

Resident Julie Hull summed it up perfectly:

โ€œNobody knows what someone is going through and this type of day makes a huge difference.โ€

It was lovely to see residents from Topphome Court and nearby Fernlea Lodge come together for a day with something for everyone.

Some moments donโ€™t need many words. โค๏ธ

Our resident Dennis shared this sweetest moment with carer Megan this morning, resting his head on her shoulder during a quiet moment together. Itโ€™s gentle, genuine connections like this that make Orchard Gardens truly feel like home. ๐Ÿ

Earlier this month, we celebrated Arts in Care Homes Day a national campaign by the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA). The campaign shines a light on the creativity, talent and imagination of people living in our care homes.

Across Anchor, residents have been getting creative in all sorts of ways โ€“ from painting, poetry and pottery to soap making, digital art and handmade wreaths.

At Sandholme Fold, resident Margaret created a beautiful piece of diamond artwork, while Geoff at The Manor House Harrogate has been sharing poetry with friends.

Residents at Moore Place explored digital art through Stories that Connect Us, while colleagues at Gills Top joined residents for soap making.

At The Firs, therapeutic art has provided another way for residents to express themselves, while at Blackbrook House, residents visited Flatford to see the work of artist John Constable.

Weโ€™ve also seen creativity bringing people together, with residents at Silver Court making welcome cards and residents at The Manor House Knaresborough creating autumnal wreaths to raise money for Happy Wanderers Ambulance Service.

These are just a few examples of the creativity happening across our care homes. Art can provide opportunities to express yourself, share experiences, connect with others and continue doing the things you enjoy.

Weโ€™re proud to celebrate the creativity of our residents โ€“ and the colleagues who help make these opportunities possible.

๐ŸŒŸ A Helping Hand from Patsy ๐ŸŒŸ

This morning, our lovely resident Patsy was keen to lend a helping hand and assisted our housekeeping team by helping to push the towel trolley around the home. ๐Ÿงบ๐Ÿ’œ

Small acts of kindness like these help create a wonderful sense of purpose, teamwork, and community within Orchard Gardens. Patsy was delighted to get involved, and our housekeeping team certainly appreciated the extra support! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you, Patsy, for starting the day with such a positive attitude and for showing that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. โญ

Everyone's wellbeing journey is different. That's why Be Well, our resident wellbeing programme, offers a range of opportunities to help residents stay active, connected and engaged.

For some residents, that's taking part in Be Active. For others, it's joining a Virtual Book Club or connecting with people who share similar interests.
