The Hugo Burge Foundation is an independent charity supporting creativity across the United Kingdom. Creativity has the power to transform the lives of individuals and communities. Established in 2024, the Hugo Burge Foundation is dedicated to nourishing and inspiring creativity in every single one of us, young and old. We run courses, host events, offer awards and provide opportunities to anyone

wanting to enrich their lives and surroundings with art, beauty and the magic of making. We provide affordable workspaces for artists, makers and creative professionals in the Scottish Borders, and offer funded and self-funded residencies throughout the year. We welcome art-lovers, schools and community groups to visit our beautiful walled garden and restored glasshouses on the Marchmont Estate.

Evening Garden Tour led by Toby Loveday.

A truly special time in the Walled Garden, usually only experienced by the Garden Team.

This summer Toby is opening up the garden in the early evening for a very different view of our Walled Garden and glasshouses.

Meeting at Toby’s favourite time to be in the garden, when the light is mellower and the flowers and plants change their colours - the garden in the evening has a completely different feel to it. It is quieter, without the hum of insects but with joyful birdsong. There is a sense of the garden settling down for the night which is truly special.

Places are limited - but you can book via the Events page on our website by following the link

Did we forget anything? 😂
It’s an HBF cheat sheet. Because there is always so much happening that even we can’t keep track sometimes! It’s hard to believe we’ve only been up and running for four years 😮‍💨 ✨✨🫠

Earlston studios are being painted this week!
To see a freshly painted space ➡️ swipe across. The third image is our large co-working room. Can’t wait for the floors to go down!

Share this with any Borders based creatives, artists, freelancers, solo business folk who might be looking for somewhere to work from.

We have big spaces for community classes too! From basket weaving to yoga, film making to fantasy horror book groups - we have somewhere you can meet up 🤓

boom saloon, an independent publisher dedicated to democratising creativity for good, will be in the Hugo Burge Foundation Glasshouses presenting this engaging 2 hour workshop, covering the history of zine making before getting hands-on and teaching you how to create your own, with a distinctly botanical twist.

Working with a variety of different materials, and drawing reference from HBF's exquisite Walled Garden, we’ll share information on the most popular forms of zine before walking you through how to make your own, inspired by the spring equinox and the beckoning of the new season.

Through cutting, sticking, writing and tearing, you’ll learn the skills required to use the power of the printed page to share your message in a fast, accessible way.

Join us to enjoy spending time together in nature as you learn this new skill and work with us to unleash your inner zine publisher.
