🌟🌟VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY 🌟🌟
Hello 👋 I’m Lisa — one of the rather special ponies at Abingdon RDA and a bit posh.
I have to say, I’m very well looked after here in Southmoor. There’s hay, comfortable accommodation, regular grooming and, quite rightly, a steady supply of people telling me how beautiful I am.
I also have a very important job.
I help our riders gain confidence, have fun and achieve things they may once have thought were impossible. I even help them win competitions Sometimes that means walking very carefully. Sometimes it means trotting. Occasionally it involves cones, poles and other objects that humans seem to find tremendously exciting.
Naturally, I take it all in my stride. But I do need a little assistance.
I need people to lead me in lessons, walk alongside my riders, groom me, fill haynets, sweep the yard and generally attend to the many jobs required to keep an establishment of this standard running smoothly.
I’m excellent at supervising yard work, by the way. I usually do this from a comfortable position while keeping a very close eye on proceedings— and yes keeping Daisy in order (remember Daisy?).
At the moment, Abingdon RDA could really do with some more helpers.
You don’t need to be an expert with horses. We can teach you what you need to know. You just need some spare time and a willingness to join in. There are loads of different things to do.
To you, it might simply be an hour or two helping on the yard or in a lesson.
To one of our riders, it can mean confidence, independence, friendship and joy.
And to me?
Well, it means I can continue doing the job I love, while maintaining the standard of care to which I have become accustomed.
